Whilst I respect your views, as a photographer, isofa. Cheap is not always poor. I mentioned my photographer on here, because it was the one thing we were going to miss out due to the high cost, (our budget of £3500 could not cope with a £1k photographer) However I put them on this thread because they were willing to trim their package to fit our budget. They were also local to our little town and I felt so comfortable with them, we actually were invited to their house, they work from home and they were happy to spend over an hour just showing us pictures, the cameras and the albums we could buy etc etc.
As we've seen in the news, you can spend over £1k and end up with rubbish or spend little and end up with amazing pictures. The upshot of this ramble is 'Do your homework, get recommendations and view their work' Your advice on another thread about type of files they use was VERY helpful, and make me understand the RAW thing ours mentioned! :o

BTW, I get out of bed for less than £500 per week, but I only work as a nurse  ETA, in a narky mood, bad day at work!!

Can I just second what frannyann has said about cheap not being poor. I added my photographer because the pictures are amazing and he did them for £440 including all pics on a disc and an album. I don't think they could have been better if I had paid £1000 for them. We have great quality pictures that haven't broken the bank. Now maybe it is because we live up North and services are a bit cheaper up here, not sure. But everyone who has seen my pics think they are brilliant and I couldn't be more pleased with them.

TBH this thread is for photographers that are good and that charge less than £500. Isn't this what MSE is about, recommending services which help us save money, but still are of good quality? Tiger xx

Found this on that list http://www.takemypiccy.com/natural-weddings.htm

Looked at the Full day from bridal preps to first dance bit - and to be honest it's put me off the bridal prep piccys. Anyone have anything to contradict this?

I didn't want the 'prep' pictures, really not keen. My photographers have removed them from the list of pictures we want and trimmed the price accordingly, and will take first picture as I leave the hotel room for the service.
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:

When a couple books me as their wedding photographer, I am there because I love what I do.. not because I see them as a 'cash cow'. Exactly what my photographers said, and lovely to hear too :T
Our most popular package is called "Essentials" and covers exactly that. It is three hours coverage and the standard price is well below £500. Read some of the recommendations for other photographers on this thread and you can see that it is possible to get a photographer you are happy with in that price range. Of course, the more coverage and products you want the more it will cost - but not everyone wants full day coverage or an expensive album (which can always be produced in the future anyway). We don't ask clients to choose an album until they are ready and our coffee-table books are a popular alternative to more expensive albums. We also offer special deals for 'off season' and 'short notice' bookings.

    .

My photographer also does a range starting at £250 for 2 1/5 hours cover and 25 pictures plus CD of images, right through to £795 for two people for the whole day, with all bells attached! What made me recommend ours, was the willingness to adapt their package to fit our budget, so they are both attending for slightly longer and we are paying a bit more for it.

There is another wedding fayre at the Oran Mor on Sunday 31st January - this one is being organised by the Myesthenia Gravis Association charity. There will be (I think) three photographers there, myself included.

Just remember that as with any purchase, you should go away from wedding fayres and book after you have reached a decision rather than booking on the day.
