doddsy that is what is putting me off as well. I am always very careful re food poisoning and I would have to cook the meat through first so I don`t think it can beat the pressure cooker. I am thinking that a trunk or somesuch would be good to try but it would take such a lot of space

when my mum bought her first pressure cooker in the late 60's, she was really wary of it - she used to make us kids stand in the back garden when it was coming up to pressure in case it exploded!! It never did, and she used it all the time - as do now with mine.
I was exactly the same with mine,it terrified the life out of me.0 -
Kittie - I have just bought a Panasonic breadmaker, and I wondered if before I start, you could give me some tips re the recipes in the booklet, cos I have printed out - think they were from somewhere on this site - comments that the recipes are not always correct??? A bit more of this... a little less of that .... but quite frankly I would not have a clue how to experiiment short of making loads of loaves .... and so please could you help?? I have bought the 254 from JLewis - also - the bread tin seems quite loose and noisy .... it does not click into place like my old Morphy Richards .... I rang up help line and girl said that was ok - it was loose???? Many thanks0

I've got a Panasonic 254 and absolutely love it. I follow the recipes exactly as they appear in the book that comes with it and the results are great! I'd say go by the book!0 -
I would say go by the book too and be very exact with everything and use scales and a liquid measure. All the loaves have turned out fantastically. Re the rattling, make sure that you put the pan in right down and then twist slightly to the right. It is rattly by the way. Go Maggie go!!!0

Been reading this thread with interest and it has made me get my breadmaker out, the only problem is i dont have the instruction booklet for it and can't remember how to put together a recipe for bread
, Any idea what i can do please?
Maybe there is a standard recipe i can use?

I don't know if this will be of use to anyone, but when I make a loaf, or dough for rolls in the breadmaker, I use half white bread flour and half malted.
It was a tip given by a friend, and I've found that it gives a slightly lighter textured loaf than using all malted flour.
The basic bread recipe for a Hinari breadmaker (given to us by a friend when he bought himself a new one:T ) is:
9 fluid ounces water
1 lb bread flour (I do half and half, as above)
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons dried milk
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons dried yeast (I find Doves Farm to be good)
1 ounce butter
Does this tie in with anyone else's breadmaker? I wouldn't have thought there'd be a vast difference in basic recipes.
When I'm doing dough for bread rolls I also chuck in 3 teaspoons of either: poppy seeds. sesame seeds or flax seeds.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
