  • rigsby, could you not phone swan and ask them for a copy of the manual, they may have it online in a pdf format. I've tried to have a look online, but I can't find the manual for a swan breadmaker, though I've found them for almost every other bm.

With the cost of gas rising, we now regularly cook all our vegetables, apart from potatoes in the same saucepan. It's just a matter of cutting them to the right size, and putting some in the water a couple of minutes ahead of the others if they need a little longer. And then, of course, turning the gas right down to simmering point and using a lid, instead of letting the flames burn away on full power.

I use a three tier steamer, bung the taties in the bottom, and add the other veggies in the steamer layers according to required cooking time, and yes even with electric it is much cheaper.

Foreigh correspondent - you can have my breadmaker! I've used it loads of times, but now I've got the Kenwood machine back in working order I don't need it. PM for details, if you're interested.

It`s an all in one thick soup for us tonight. All sorts of veg, lentils, herbs and veg stock. Cooked in the pressure cooker for 10 minutes. All the nutrients will be in there and it will cost just 5p in energy.

I suggest you look at weezl`s thread for really good cost cutting recipes.

The time has come to put all that we have learned into practise. It isn`t a rehersal any more

Kittie...............couldn't help noticing on your signature how you've cut your energy costs down.............lucky/clever you. We're in a 4 bed.terraced house, washing machine 30 degrees no matter what it is, energy saving lightbulbs throughout, gas cental heating we try and keep as low as poss. in the winter and just stick an extra woolly on, loft insulated, draught proofing but still out bills seem high. It's really scary.
Mind you, the kids both have teles upstairs, we've got one in the lounge & video -nothing ever left on stand-by -have to keep nagging kids about that one ..............not sure what else we can do really.

Any ideas how we can wash sheets at 30 degrees AND remove the smell of wee! DS has bladder trouble. :(

Got to the point now I dont think I can save much more money, I have knitted a hat for my baby (10 weeks more to go :)) and am going to make my own nappy covers if I can be brave enough, with some fleece material I was given. Then I am going to sell books and clothes and try to start building up some savings.

SS, I don't know what age your son is, but it could be worth seeing you enuresis nurse to ask about maybe getting a kylie. This is a waterproof sheet that absorbs the water, leaves the skin and the bed sheet dry, meaning you only have to wash the kylie everyday. I used a spoonful of boots nappysoak in the wash when I was doing this for dd.
