Just on the news. Candle prices are going to soar
I am glad to say that I have cupboards full because of the past thoughts on this thread :T0 -
and maple syrup!!!! at T today. Shock horror £4.20 for a small bottle. I bought runny honey at aldi instead
I liquidise tofu and soya milk with maple syrup as it makes a lovely topping that keeps for days in the fridge. I am going to add some vanilla to the honey substitute and it should still taste nice.0 -
on the radio just before I posted
I have been on yankee doodle and ordered some more yankee candles for my stash. I got 3 for 2 of the new soy candles plus extra freebies because I spent too much!!!
Uk candle sellers, including ikea, are angry, it is to do with candles from china and comes into effect today or tomorrow

See below - for more growbag thingies:

a rather good idea methinks and sparked off the thought of those "bag thingies" that are used sometimes instead of skips - ie those sorta huge bags with handles that I see on the road outside people's homes in lieu of skips and filled with sand or similar. Errr...non-technical that's me!:D but I'm sure someone will come along with the correct name for these bags soon - bet they'd do the trick as massive growbags in someone's garden personally. I've got a vague idea I might even have seen them in the Argos catalogue for just a few £s.
Right - I've been discussing this idea when I was out today and have been told they are called "builders bags". Other names include: bulkbags, dumpy bags, aggregate bags, tonne bags and jumbo bags. "Builders bags" seems the most common name and I've been googling around - to date I've discovered them in 2 different sizes (the largest of the two was 3' x 3' x 3') and I'm thinking "that's not a bad size and I wonder if there are bigger ones out there". The websites selling them I've found so far are builders' ones and tend to sell in bulk - and, as far as I can see, the price each ranges from 40p (yay!) to £7 - presumably plus VAT either way? So - they're cheap.
I was told that builders often have them and just throw them away after use - - so 'twould be ever so environmentally-friendly to ask the local builder to throw them in your direction I would think;) - bit of a wash and I see no reason why they wouldn't do just fine for foodgrowing purposes - and readily capable of being folded up and packed away of a winter if wanted:D . Three in a 3' square feet size would be 9 square feet if my maths is correct (which is debatable sometimes!) and - bingo - enough for 1 persons veg. or a sizeable contribution to a family - done by the Square Foot Method.
Sounds feasible to me!:D0 -
 I really should know better than to look on Tescos site..the preserving sugar has gone up again!! Thats from 62p a packet in August to £1.17p now  The value toms have gone up to 33p from 29p last week..I knew things were going to get a bit hairy but I'm still disgusted.
So much for every little bits helps...
What's going on at Tesco - the wee tins of tomato puree have gone from 17p a tin to 25p in the space of days?
I don't know if it's just our Tesco, but they had none of their own Peanut Butter on the shelves and the Sunpat was over £2 a jar :eek:0 -
I don't know Ness but its getting really stupid with our one..
My shopping comes from a huge dotcom warehouse and they seem to go through either really good or totally dire periods..I just threw an unopened packet of mozzarella cheese away I was planning to make a pizza with yesterday it was dated 15th Dec and was green:mad: The fresh stuff is really poor atm.
Last week the value sauce I usually buy was knocked down from 25p to 20p so I put 5 in my basket to effectively get 1 free..by the time the shopping arrived the next day it had gone back up again.
I'm lucky because I don't HAVE to shop for much, other people do as they don't keep much in and it must be hurting them a lot...they have no 'cushion' for the rises
Ours took the peanut butter off too, wait for the relaunch of a smaller jar costing more :mad:0 -

If anyone spots maple syrup at a half decent price can you post please as my mum asked me to order her some from tesco's and I couldn't get any..and when I checked other stores I nearly keeled over at the price too Kittie :eek:0 -
