Morning all,have just cought up with this thread.You have been busy:D . I work at the weekends so only just been on to catch up. A remoska sounds amazing,just can't afford one.Though my MIL has been asking what I want for my birthday.My friend is getting me a SC as a joint b'day christmas pressie.Wondering if I could do the same with MIL for a remoska.:rolleyes:
I also need to start looking at getting provisions in for any blackouts though only have an electric hob.What could I cook on with no electric? It is shocking how relient my home is on electric.Not sure how to combat this as I am in rented property.Its an old place that does have fireplaces BUT all boarded up. The damp is getting worse and letting agency has said they will look into getting a dehumidifier.Now worried about the cost of running the darn thing:o .Dearie me..must learn to Calmmmmm.

Ranita, buy a small bistro type camping stove. They run on calor gas and are amazing. You can buy packs of the gas in argos, and maybe the stove as well. buy the "bistro" one, they are safer cos they're flat.0

I agree with Mardatha. We don't have gas here, so have an electric cooker and as we get power cuts I bought one of those stoves. I got mine in Argos, but you can get them in lots of places now-camping shops and ebay are a couple of places that have them.0

I don't have a gas cooker but we rarely have power cuts. If we did have one... I'd jump in the car up the road to my mum's and cook on her gas cooker then jump back in the car to bring it homeworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0

Thank you gigervamp and mardatha.I feel like such a numpty! I have one of those stoves(we go camping).Thank you ever so much for reminding me.Why did I not think of it?0

My BIL bought me one of those last year as we often have power cuts here. They're so much safer than the old 'upright' type which used to frighten the life out of me when I used to go trekking.
mind you, I've moved house recently and now live just opposite DSis and BIL and they have a Rayburn....... (insert smiley here!)... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Hi BH, we have already tried warm front, but dont qualify, will have to look at our budget again and I will probably have to do some sessional work during my leave in October. On a different note, I dont mean to sound ignorant but how much do we need to worry about the effects of the Lehman bank et al situation?0

One 'essential' that I've bought is a headtorch each for OH and myself. That way we can carry on reading. OH lives on his computer and if it goes off I want him to be able to follow his second hobby of reading or I'll probably kill him after a few hours
))
Luckily I'm good at going to sleep anytime, anywhere so hopefully I'll just sleep through any power cuts - provided OH is happy.

That's pretty much the kind of stuff I've got packed away honey. plus some tinned bean salad, tinned veggies and tinned fish that could be eaten cold in a pinch.
Lidl has a great range of tinned food I find. They do some pasta and dishes in a tin - and I adore their lentil and sausage soup! I've tried to go for a bit of a variety, and a decent quantity - just in case!
We've also got crackers and biscuits and bottled water, but probably not enough of the latter. (but I figure that we live in England so a sky full of water is never far away!)

I shall have to have a mooch around next time I go in there.

Tinned soup and Cup of Soup sachets, instant noodles, biscuits and savoury biscuits.
Biscuits, now how could I have forgotten about those.
A couple more things to add to the list.
