Elona, where did you get them? Boxes sound good.

They are only boxes of six household candles for about 90 pence for the box.

We do have power cuts here - very common as all lines are overhead and farmers tractors and power lines have this nasty habit of colliding :)

One very handy wee gadget I have bought and placed around the house is these
    http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001151&productId=1500234747&langId=-1&engine=froogle&keyword=Philips+White+Plastic+Spot+on+LED+Sensor+Light

Now these are great for us as I have elderly parents who aren't so steady on their feet. I have them in the hall ways, along the stairs etc, at a height the dog cant set them off. Also great for keeping electric costs down as there is no need to turn hall lights on going room to room. Also I find them great for when I get home in the early hours - no fumbling looking light switches and falling over the dog waking everyone.

No screws needed - sticky pads on the back for fixing to walls and magnetic fixture to the battery housing

They look great and as I have £40 of Argos vouchers I think I'll be buying a few. :T

Love the OS forum but if you're away for a few days it takes ages to catch up
  • For the person that mentioned dehumidifiers and their running costs....we have one, have had for a couple of years now and it runs almost all the time in winter. We find ours doesn't use much pwer at all - I'll have a clearer picture of the "real" situation in a few days though having just borrowed Mum's "electric use meter" gadget. I'll try to post an update once I've used the gadget and know for sure. (It's monitoring the laptop at the moment!)

most supermarkets sell them, but they're usually tucked away on the bottom shelf or somewhere obscure, and I've nearly always had to ask for them (unlike the expensive coloured candles which are easily found ). I seem to remember that you're not close to any supermarkets? our local (tiny) co-op sells them too so it might be worth asking your local store? You can buy them online but the postage makes them expensive
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

I got some from MrS last week. Pack of 6 and in the basics range so cheap too! (although can't remember exact price - sorry) I also got some cheap but quite nice little glass holders to stand them in for about 60p for a pack of 2.
