My 16 yr old son  seem to think the difference hinges on being a 'feed' via the internet, rather than a 'transmitted' signal??? I'll try and find out and let you know.....

Ah, good point! But then again, would it be considered that it's still being transmitted, albeit down a cable instead of via the airwaves? I'm sure tv licencing people would find some way to insist on a licence because of that!

THE MAIN oops prob with nonnymice is that you need people's actual addresses. A lot of folk arent happy about that, is there some way round it ? if we all made it a club or something? I dont know but I for one love GIVING things more than getting them.
I am going away up north to my mountains for a long weekend thankgod, so will be missing until Tues. If anybody has any ideas re mice please carry on and I'll join when I get back .

Errr....<cough> a specially-appointed Board guide perhaps who gets sent the "mouse" and then transmits them onwards - would need to be someone new (dont want to overburden our current Board Guides) and well-trusted (ie to pass the goods on).
  • Kittie - i know i sometimes wish we had our own little MSE village - think about how nice it would be - lots of snuggly houses with no heating, lots of crafting, a real sense of community, lots of own veg and crop growings, mass cooking days - it would be our own little civilisation in the middle of nowhere

    I want to live there.

Me too. Although heaven forbid that it should take World War III to rekindle this spirit of community which used to exist. Round here one can go for weeks without many neighbours even speaking to each other. Guess busy lifestyles possibly has something to do with it but it's a sad reflection of our communities these days.
  • My practical head came on again yesterday. Water meters and paying for water adds up too. I have been using a neti pot for washing my sinuses and for hygiene reasons do it in the bathroom. I run the water until it comes through warm and it struck me the other day that there must be a means of re-cycling bathroom water. I have cracked it: I bought a 90p plastic mixing bowl from T and a £1.87 oval bucket and discarded the mop squeezer bit. The bowl fits beautifully in the sink. It doesn`t hold quite enough to flush the loo properly hence the bucket. I also tried a shower with bucket and bowl in there too and I got half a bucket of water and that is the amount that is efficient at loo flushing. They didn`t really get in my way either. As mr T says, every little helps :D

Ceridwen, I have long been of the opinion that we could get by on just veg without fruit and I was taught that exotic fruit isn`t good (as in natural) for us anyway. We have adapted to do well on home grown (uk) stuff and that means veg with orchard fruits and bilberries, blackberries, elderberries etc. We definitely don`t need oranges, bananas, kiwi, mango etc

see i have to pay £35 a month for water - but its not on a meter - thats my fixed rate with some of it being waste etc so it makes no difference how much i use but im expecting them to be metering us soon so appreciate the tips on helping conserve water.

couldnt agree more about the fruit thing either and the best part is is alot of that can be foraged for - which reminds me i saw lots of black berries up on my doggy walk the other day and loads (round the back entrance) of my little boys school so may be off there on monday and raiding it on the way home so i have plenty in to make crumbles and jam etc.
    Time to find me again
  • Its not good you felt like that. I had school meals when I was small and I wasnt subject to that. At first you may think its not acceptable. but imagine if you had to pay for a meal and you were left to last and had less of a choice that would be worse. i am not having a go but i think to have free school meals is really lucky. I remember when I was at high shool most of my friends had a dinner ticket and the rest of us were jealous - well those with homemade sarnies lol.

Where I live when on benefits you get access to leisure giving you 75% off things such as theatre, gym etc and when I was on benefits I went to see a play. If you had an access to leisure card you had to wait until all the payers had paid and got the best seats, I felt second class at the time, but if we are only paying say 3.00 instead of 15.00 i wouldnt really expect anything else. I would not have been given the opportunity at the time.

My daughter gets free school meals (a recent development since my husband died in March) and I really like the way secondary schools in Edinburgh collect the money - basically it is all done electronically and is cashless.

All kids getting free school meals have their card automatically set by the Education Department and no-one is any the wiser.

Of course my daughter is autistic and doesn't care who knows she gets free school meals as things like that don't bother her anyway :p

I work as a mid day assistant in an infant school and we don't know which children have free school meals or which pay. They are all treated the same. The only people who know are the office staff.

sammy-kaye. Remember the old saying "Don't pick blackberries after the end of September because the devil has pi**ed on them". Pick your berries as soon as possible. I picked a few whilst passing along a footpath yesterday and already they tasted mouldy and horrible. All this wet weather I suppose.
