candles and torches because they offer artificial light and for me living in a welsh valley that is very prone to mudslides on all accessable routes and lots of power cuts they do come in handy to have around 'just in case'.
Ive lost count of the amount of power cuts we've had the last few monthsTime to find me again0 -
We get lots of powercuts aswell. We also have an old eccentric temperamental electricity system which decides to blow fuses all over the place
And s*ds law - it always seems to be when i'm recording a good programme :rotfl:0 -
We are in Cambridgeshire and have had lots of power cuts recently. One day two or three weeks ago we had 4 power cuts in one day. I knew exactly where the candles and matches were and pulled out my wind up torch - DH doesn't think I'm *quite* as mad any more!0

I have started my blanket. I did 10 stitches first as a practise to see if I could get it to go up straight so you need 10 plus 2 for the end. You always miss the first one out then do 2 in the last one and you should always end up with 10
I have done my 250 stitch chain plus 2 for the turn and I am using 1 strand of dk acrylic that I have had hanging around for ages and a size 4 hook is fine. I am not going to waste any wool so will start and finish in the middle of a row if necessary. Not only will I have a nice colourful throw but I won`t feel guilty putting my feet up, I`ll be totally relaxed because I`ll have my radio on as well and I`ll be clearing a nice big box for something else
There is a good video clip on how to do double crochet. She says to add 3 extra at the ends but 2 is better as 3 is too loopy

horseinhatman, major ftse 100 companies have been on a rolling programme of `voluntary` power cuts last year because of energy shortages. Can you see there being any more energy provision this year?
We tend to be forward thinking on this thread and no one is in the `shutting the stable door after the event` category. Nothing will be wasted at all and if we don`t get any problems then good and we will just use our stores up as appropriate0 -
We are in somerset and have had 4 this year so far.0

OK, so just kinda preparing for all outcomes then. I only asked because I have had about 2 power cuts in 6 years , both lasted less than 10 mins and both were in the middle of the day, but if you are getting them often where you live then I see why.0

Horseinhatman. If you read the serious news in the papers, you will see that Russia - a major supplier of gas to Western Europe, is threatening to cut off supplies in retaliation for the EU's opposition to its invasion of Georgia. If that happened, we could suffer really serious long term disruptions to our fuel supply here in the UK, with power cuts and rationing in domestic homes, and industry suffering shutdowns and employees being laid off. So of course people who can read the signs in the tealeaves are getting stocked up with candles, wind up torches and other back up provisions. This country is not self sufficient in either gas or electricity. You have been warned.0

Last year only 2% of our gas supply came from Russia hun.Infrastructure restrictions mean that Gazprom supplies about 2pc of UK gas0
