I already use my wind up radio daily. I have been suffering from a nasty cold and have been knitting some alan dart figures while listening to the radio next to me. Sitting on a cosy chair, feet up, tissues and lozenges next to me. I`m hoping that is my cold for the year, it bloomin well feels like it. I am over the worst now because no bug could carry on living in me after all the counter-bug measures I have taken

This cold got me thinking though and I have added some cold and flu meds to my shopping list, to go into my store. I couldn`t have survived without some nasal decongestant and paracetamol. I have also added 500 mg time release vitamin C

Next project is to start using all the leftover wools and to get crocheting. I fancy one of those old fashioned throws, like the dingles have in emmerdale

I am cooking a lot more pulses now and very little meat so what I said about cutting down on meat 2 years ago is most definitely being put into practise. TBH the food is lovely, satisfying, homely and so much cheaper. The strange thing is that it wasn`t a conscious overnight decision, it just happened gradually

re colds. I have retired now but did graduate in homeopathy so have added some new remedies to replace out of date remedies and also a new, handy kit that even my dh can use for himself as it comes with a good booklet. Use by date is 2013 so it will be another goodie to have in my store

Honey and lemon drinks are my potion when I have a cold (just got over it) -trouble is, with that much lemon, plus lemon flavoured cough sweets and cough medicide it left me with dreadful acid indegestion for about a week. Thankfully its cleared up now (she says hopefully)..........but for me honey and lemon always does the trick.

  • It is too fiddly to try and get a square crochet blanket going so I am going to do it this way
    http://belladia.typepad.com/bella_dia/2006/11/vintage_vertica.html

I will use two strands at a time so it should grow quicker, it will keep my knees warm when I am working at it and I can`t drop any stitches

Kittie, that blanket is very pretty. I have recently been inspired to start to learn to knit - I have never got past a few rows due to my impatience, but the 'wooligans' have been an insperation to me and I have searched out my Knitting For Dummies book and am getting there. I figure it is a useful skill to have, being able to knit your own clothing. I have memories of my nan unpicking old, out of fashion adult jumpers and making cardigans for the grandchildren out of them - how money saving and true recycling :)

    Sorry, I waffle on ;)

The point of this post was that the blanket you link to also has instructions on how to crotchet, and it looks like it is reasonably easy. From what I recall, doesn't crochet 'grow' faster than knitting (something an impatient like myself appreciates)? I think I may also try and learn to crochet as well, thanks for the link.

    Nope..no good..

I can get the chain n single..but then my work seems to be pointing in the wrong direction :rotfl: ..Back to 2 needles for me I think.. I reckon what I will have to do, is wait until I visit the Uk again and go and sit with the nice lady in the wool shop so she can coach me ;) once I get something then i will be fine...but the instructions just don't seem to go in and stay in when i read

Shaz.. im not sure what to do for fergus yet... I was thinking of starting a blanky..until we know what he/she is -then i can knit accordingly :D will have to Pm ISOM and grill her for what sort of colours she thinks would be best ;)

I do this as well, only I put a capful of whiskey in it as well, if I have a sore throat too I make it 2 capfuls :o:rotfl::rotfl: Which reminds me, I need to get some more whiskey as I used the end of my bottle up when I was ill a few weeks back :o *toddles off to add it to the shopping list*

  • why are people buying candles and wind up torches ?, are you expecting power cuts for some reason? cant see any reason why there should be.
