I did some searching last evening, and found a forum with a link to another forum, keep up, it had a post from a couple of days ago stating that the poster had been told by someone at VirginCS that it would all updating would be finished by May 9th 2009.
I find that difficult to believe, :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Did find this about ordering a new modem, make sure you sign in with your main alias not the Virgin supplied username/email.

Virgin told me back in March that all customers would be upgraded FOC to 10Mb in May anyway - so it wasn't worth paying to upgrade."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

The paid upgrade has different traffic limits to the free upgrades.

Have a look HERE for example, this seems to suggest that while upgrades are free, you do have to register.
I would like to know if, by registering that is seen as accepting a new 12mth (?) contract.
Which I don't want.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
In the past, they've just upgraded us. We've not had to do anything.
We're just going to sit tight for a few weeks and see if they write to us. They were implying that we needed a new modem for the 10Mb but when we tried the free trial of it back in Jan, it worke fine on our current hardware.
I don't want to be messgin with my package either. We currently get a £20 loyalty discount which we wouldn't get back again if we messed about with it."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

I'm in a similar situation.
On the whole 2 mbit is OK, my bill came through end of April for payment end of May, for BB only, no other services, with the latest price increase it's gone up to £8.30.
This deal, or discount off the full price as they call it, (means they can still up the basic, while maintaining your discount) lasts until November, it's a 6mth contract (now over) with a no strings 6mth extension, so I certainly don't want to rock the boat.
And definitely don't want to get tied into a contract.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
I have just call good old VM about the "free upgrade".
The chap on the phone said he could do it there and then for me and my discount would even go from £9.50 per month to £12.50. Silence. Then I asked if that would tie me into another 12 months with VM to which the deal breaker word was "YES".
Apparently I can wait though as everyone should be getting upgraded in May. I questioned the should be part of that and was told it will definitely be happening in May.
Odd that when you go through the link above (http://www.virginmedia.com/myvirginmedia/gofaster/) it tells you "We'll be upgrading your area to our faster up to 10Mb service within the next couple of months"
I was a little miffed at this as we'd been told 1st May and there were no delays in the price of M broadband going up £2. Strange how the info about that price rise came just before the "free" upgrade. A very sneaky way not to have to reimburse people for a service they're not getting while they get their act together.

Ooh how confused can one person be... my Virgin BB is up for renewal in June. We only get BB with them and for 6 months of the 18 it was £10 and now is £18 - we only get 2mb. I too got the 10mb literature but have no idea if its going to cost more. I am an on off heavy dL user so don't want something thats capped. So far with the service Virgin have been fine but I am sure there are other / better options out there. Do I have to register to get the upgrade?
Phone is BT on their cheapest of cheap option with free we and eve calls and TV is freeview. all together we pay about 30 odd quid a month. We don't watch telly massivley as what I miss I catch up with on the Internet. Can anyone suggest what we should do...Married the love of my life on 28th April 2011 :T
