  • Landlord isnt happy with them telling this to every prospective tenant - dunno what's happenned between them - as we drove over the landlord warned me

He just said there were perfectly good carpets in the place before they put new ones in and thought it was cheeky they were saying this to all folks looking.

    L I think you've a point as well! :)

Ask them for a list of what they're thinking of including in their "bargain" £1k offer. Work out what from the list you need, not want, then give them an offer for those. Seemples :D

    Exactly - :D

In OH's words - I have to stop blinking obsessing and tell them we want it.

    :rotfl:

    Stop obsessing moi???

  • Do you know, if it were me, I think I'd try calling their bluff. Initially I'd ignore the offer, then if they came baclk and said anything more about it I'd sort of smile sweetly and say "Well, as a single parent I'd not be able to afford that. Thanks for the offer though, I do appreciate it" then just change the subject.....two possibilities - one, they might realise how childish they are being on that, and two, they might just get fed up with playing games and move out, leaving the stuff there anyway. I would suggest also that any liaison like that ought to go through the landlord anyway, and as it sounds like he's none too chuffed with them, that might help, and might also get the Landlord on your side...

Good news about OH committing to half the rent - that will make a welcome addition to the debt repayment pot won't it! :D

Wish me luck - will phone in the am first thing

I just did the budget thingmy on here

With all the new figures plugged in (and NO OH help) I am still under budget even without the lodger and I pumped up my car fuel costs to £200 a month and estimated £150 for electric

    - the savings are I guess the fact there is less rent, lower overall fuel costs and I guess we won't have the luxury of a cleaner/window cleaner so those bits even out the lodger income but its a bit of a guesstimate at the mo but I've estimated highish

EH like the advice - I was wondering about dithering for a bit - I reckon if they leave the carpets etc down during my ditheration - I also stand a greater chance of being able to negotiate with them - I think they've probably asked the landlord to buy the stuff and he's said no. Dunno what's going on there but will see what happens, I need to keep a nice clean relationship with landlord if I get it. Especially as I would like to propose to open up a chimney and put in a woodburner later on if I can.

    Good advice chaps :)

27 squares of my blanket done - I've learnt to crochet on these manky nights - got a bag of wool off bits from a charity shop - so many more to do - but they are fun and a bit garish :)

Good luck with it, Fay, let us know what happens.

And good for you for learning to crochet - a local craft museum had a two hour lesson last year, and I went along but couldn't get on with it at all - my tension was too tight (story of my life, lol) and it hurt my fingers too, with all my incipient arthritis, so I abandoned it - I'll stick wtih knitting, which hurts only a little, and that after a long while.

By the way - check out the rules of grammar that Z posted on my thread, they'll give you a laugh.
