Ta KC - I;ve done the sums :) its not dissimilar to here (the rent is over £100 a month less expensive in the new place) but aside 'visitors' there is no real capacity for a lodger unless we took in someone with a car etc and I think if I can have a polytunnel I can supplement our food and maybe begin farmers markets again (I use to do them here for a couple of years before herbs, salads, plants and cut flowers). I'd quite like to have the isolation but won't rule out ldogers

I dunno what the man might think of B&B he'd suggested that was what the house was rennovated for but they didn't get the right person to make it work. So that's a maybe I guess (although we do 'quiet' b&b anyway when its asked for) so things like that might help

Financially it works to a degree - I'd need to budgeted an allowance for extra stuff like increasing the budget for fuel for the car

But on the household expenses side of things having added up our fuel costs here (similar sized house) we're spending through the winter and alot of the summer £230 a month just on elec/oil/coal and we live in hats, layers and jumpers. So if I can heat somewhere with electric and really watch it hard - maybe (MAYBE) it can perhaps work

I'm putting in my interest and will see what happens I just want a lovely settled house to enjoy the last 4 years of kids at school here - let us all just enjoy it all.

If I can swing the school transport, which it looks like I can for both of them - I can easily work in either town or at home.

We're generally lucky with visitors and those wee treats keep everything topped up - mainly our spirits!!

all sounds very positive to me fay.
OH spent some time at the allotment today, sort of 'dug' two more beds, and built another pallet compost bin, i really should go up there as haven't been up for a while and he's put so much hard work into it.

Oooh, Fay, that house is proper gorgeous! I'd SO love to live somewhere like that :):):) So much. I keep trying to put in a good word for moving to Orkney, but Mr Daffs just isn't having it :)

I so hope you can make it work!

Madly snowing again here - shame really as I was booked on to a women's bike ride (12 miles with 4 cafe stops - my kind of bike ride!), and was going to get some horse poo for the garden this afternoon!

Ah well, hot chocolate and knitting beckons instead I think...

Hmmmm. Cheaper rent but no lodgers, thats a tough one. Lots and lots of thinking required, from the sound of it.

thanks all true and wonderful comments

CHeery nice to see you - well done on the payments to Mr Daffs

You can always come visit 'your' orkney house :)

YaY to poo - ergh to snow

LT well done on allotmment work :) that its OH is fine - spread the work when you can

KC - yeah I think the difference is when I move - I can't believe I'm saying this - aside the Student loan - when we move we WONT have any other LOANS with interest.

Yup - as I type it I can barely believe it - my MSc loan will be paid by July - thats the last interest paying loan - :)

Gargamel is hovering over £2k and I'm still keen to do a F&F - before then if I can - otherwise its only £50

Penguin chops has said - he's not bothered when I repay him (2.7k) and how about a token £20 a month til its cleared? We heard from him yesterday randomly.

This house with lodgers was really about paying off as much as possible whilst we had the resource and from that point of view I guess its worked

OH has committed to the house and texted last night to say he's happy to commit to half the rent of a new place as he's expecting to live in it with us (?!!) for at least a part of every month - but I've yet to speak to him properly -but I guess that means I will have a 'lodger of sorts' if OH comes?

I'm still a bit in shock to be honest :)

He's said not to rule out lodgers either as he reckons its not been so very intrusive here - and to think about it......................

Sun shining here! Up late and still in PJ's must get on and perhaps tidy the potting shed!!!

Woo hoo! Thats fantastic Fay, and you must be so happy to hear the commitment behind what OH is saying - I mean, he's committed to the welliefest, but actively committing to the everyday is ... well, its just nice.

  • Hi Fay found your diary and been reading .xx
  • Hey beat the debt - Hello - I'm sure its very strange over here (Me not this lot of lovely folks!) hello you and well done for keeping up with my financial and life rambles!!

Yeah KC _ he's slowly (4 years I've been here) comign around to things I suppose - I'm a bit hesistant to believe it all still - guess thats my trust issues - so I want to make sure I can 'do it alone' if I have to as I'd prefer to know I can absolutely stand alone

Does that make me cynical or sensible - I'm not sure!!

I'm so glad I found this site before my last move and took such briliiant advice as to how to make progress clearing my debts :)

Without it - I'd probably be in a terrible state
