Ooh, good news about OH! Glad he's come round and seen the sense of moving to such a gorgeous place :):)

Sensible making sure you can manage whatever happens I reckon.

And how fab that dealing with your debts means you can take a fab opportunity when it comes up - hooray!

    xx
  • Oh the new house also has a walk down to the beach - I didn't mention that did I - just looked at a proper map of the area.............

Just spoke to the current tenants - no one else has seen it yet aside one couple with no kids

They reckon they spend about 200 a month on electric for 7 months of the year
and about £100 the rest of the month

But she did say she ran the tumble drier constantly - which I don't use cos I've not had one for about 15 years - :)

Hey HB nice to see you about - hope you had lovely time with OH - polar bears indeed!!

Cheery thanks - I guess the plus side of no loan DD's is that we can spend the money on other things (like petrol I suppose, not glamourous) but I do want to spend the last 4 years here just enjoying the life and the views, which means rural.......which means a car...........

    Steak pie in oven,
DD making jam tarts with the leftover pastry

Made a huge pot of ratatouie (SP) today so I shoudl deal with that later and alos had a lovely walk on the beach :)

PS the old tenants want £1000 to leave the 'nice' carpets, washing poles, clothes lines and things they've put in - otherwise they will rip them out (they don't need them they say - they just won't leave them) - so I dunno what to do about that - the carpets are nice and some of the furnishings (curtains, etc) are nice - £1000 seems a bit steep - any suggestions?

How absolutely uselessly spiteful of them Fay! I can't believe anyone would be so ludicrously selfishly rotten! "I don't want it, but unless you pay me, I'm not going to let YOU have it cos it's MINE even though I don't want it and am going to throw it in the bin"

Grrr. Might have to have a cup of tea to calm down after the ludicrous stupidness of that!! Give them a slap and tell them where to shove their damn carpets I say. Let them rip them out, then go and pinch them out of the skip ;)

I do think its rather bad house karma

They have said the same about washing poles, etc - I can sort of see the logic - but if they dont need them - why bother taking them - we're a nice family and I think I'd say OK we've put this stuff in - any chance of a goodwill payment for them - save you having to get other bits?

I can't afford an extra 1000 but I can see they are all pretty new etc - so was thinking of making them some sort of offer - but just not sure and certainly not that much.

I don't want to be selfish either and the stuff was nice.............

But thanks cheery me dear I do share your feelings!

I might ask them to give me a detailed list of everythign and a price and then I can pick the bits I want - and haggle a bit. SO if they can be bothered to write it all out - I can then choose the bits we want and offer for them - but if they cant be bothered then at least I will have tried - no one hands over lots of cash without knowing exactly what they are paying for do they? I guess if I do that - it shows I'm willing to consider the things and I'm trying to be fair and not grabby.

Wondered if it was just me being a bit mean and grabby

(if of course I get the house)

Hmmm. An offer, certainly, but you're right, its very bad karma for them, grrr. You were thinking of making an offer, okay.... make the offer you would have made anyway (don't react against them, otherwise bad karma for you! just use a few choice words as you thump the bejesus out of your mattress one day :) )

If they'd turned down your hypothetical offer, because they *needed* the stuff, what would you have done then? Thats your fallback.

As far as trusting OH and wanting to do it on your own - trust is a process, not a one time decision - he's taking a leap in what he's offering, thats a *good* thing, enjoy that - he must have been thinking about it and decided to go for it.

    Hurray!

    Well said KC

I'm a rubbish negotiator - but they pretty much announced we want £1000 for all this stuff when I was just in the door - def won't hold anything against anyone but absolutely can't afford to cross over 2 houses pay a deposit and a months rent and then another £1000 out of the blue

NOrmally I do go without stuff cos I'm learning that living within your means (especially if I have to cross two houses over) is far more important otherwise its 1000 that could go to my debts

Why rip out carpets to relay the old ones (which are a hotchpotch) if you don't need them? Seems a bit like hard work to me. But I can see the logic for them.

None of my life matches anyway and I'm a hotchpotch of everything so - you're right - as much as some new bits might be nice, they're certainly not essential so its a better place to be than desperately needing something.

YOu make me think strong things you chaps - thanks

Yeah OH is being great and making great leaps - I'm often too independant for my own good - 7 years he's put up with my quirkiness and stubborn streak - nice to have the time to let things happen gradually - I'm pretty controlling though and stubborn - often to my detriment - lol

Not that it wouldn't be nice, of course - you're allowed to regret it! But it'll be fine without. What does the landlady say?

Ask them for a list of what they're thinking of including in their "bargain" £1k offer. Work out what from the list you need, not want, then give them an offer for those. Seemples :D
