  • Peedie update on 'ootside the hoose - aka the gairden'

OK since class on Thursday night (Vegetable Gardening in Orkney by Mr Garden Guru of Orkney and his fledgling stripey assistant) I have given myself a swift kick up the jacksie

I am mopping and moaning here (mostly to you lot) and not out doing what I love in my garden

SO - today - its a garden day

BRB is about to be fired up there are leaves to suck up everywhere
    Tatties to dig
    Tomatoes to harvest
    Basil to harvest
Garlic to bring inside and onions to sort
Inspect the squashes etc (I knew it was a mistake to grow them outside - DOH)
    Pick some flowers
Think about clearing out a few beds
    Split up some strawberries
Plant 2 big buckets of ladies mantle (my favourite) outside the kitchen window
    LOGS< LOGS< LOGS needing done

Lodger girlie and I bumped into each other in Mr T yesterday during our pilgrrimage (3x big blocks cheddar 70p each :) various breaded goods 15p-27p, bag apples for 50p and that was about it) lots of other reductions but too expensive - Sorry KK!

Anyway lodger girlie said - 'Oh I need to give you the rent this weekend please' Big smiles from me :) so will sort that later on

Spoke ot OH on phone, let him call me as my mobile bill has gone up a bit (he refuses to switch on his house phone - grrr - so I always have to call his mobile)

Need to plan trip south, trying to scam (sorry plan) some more IT training so I can get a trip down paid

Main thing today is to enjoy garden and reawaken the love I have for all things growing, sort out potting shed etc and not freak out about beginning to write again (all my IT equipment has started to arrive) and do some cooking later which I also love.

I do need to be brave later and venture into my study - had an email for someone desperate for a room - BUT - although considered giving up the 'office/study' if I don't manage to write effectively over the next 3-4 months - I definately wont be a doctor of flowers no chance - so as much as I'd like to help this girl - I fear anohter body in the house at this moment in time is just too much for us (me) - feel terrible as the girls having a terrible tiem at her own place and I feel really selfish (we really could help) but I think I can't.

Kids ace - OH offered to contribute half to DD xmas pressie - so I only need to find maybe 150 (i have alot of quidco stuff and could ebay some plants so will check that out today as well)

I need some motivation - edna is at 430 saved up to pay her off :)

I WILL DRIVE BRB (THE BIG RED BEAST) AND SAY HI TO CHOOKIE

    (after another cuppa :))

    Hey miss

great to see you - love the idea of 'falling back in love' with gardening.

I know what you mean about feeling guilty re the girl who needs a room but you need to focus on you. If things change, you can always call her.

Need to get moving now - going to see a potential photographer this am!

    Which variety are you growing?
When harvesting (late September or before heavy frosts) the fruit should be cut from the vine with the stem attached. You can tell when the fruit is ripe by the texture of the skin. It becomes very firm, golden in colour and will easily resist the pressure of your thumb nail. Also, like a melon, it "rings" when given a good rap.

Sounds like your's aint ready yet.........

HP stop bowing - get up off the floor:rotfl:
