I cant decide what I feel about their decision but mostly I am a bit angry and concerned.

However, my very first thought is for you and that whatever happens next is what you want. I am glad you never agreed to anything nor signed anything. I suspect they are being very unfair and I dont believe for one second that you are not capable of the PhD. As you have said from the very first moment I 'met' you, all you have been asking for is a good supervisor and the correct support.

Take these next two weeks to relax, get advice and think things through. vent and whatever else is requried. Remember that dslexia is not a barrier for life. We have many students who have it and manage perfectly well. They cannot discriminate on that basis.

  • Hey chaps - big smiles and hugs thank you.

Had a bit of a mini collapse this morning - half angry, half frustrated, krackered and just plain mad.

    Anyhow

Hope you are all good - I went to bed at 11pm last night and was up at 9 (sleep bliss).

Spent the day guddling about, charity shops etc - sitting in a very impressive stirpey orange and dark orange boden top (ok for a quid).

Spished and splashed in the beach, ate icecream, enjoyed the sun, fed the hens, swung in the hammock and said a big hello to my veggie garden.

Went to the beach for a couple hours with DS and his chum (14 1/2 and still hugs his mummy lovely eh) - doggies and I went swimming - got some good photos willl post some soon.

Seems summer has arrived and I have got long hair somehow or other..
Toes full of sand and heads full of family nonsense.

Hurray for sand and family nonsense.

Love and hugs to you all - ta for keeping my chin up - its a lovely life here - and aside family stuff and non-existent social life at work etc you are all my rocks

    Rocks I salute you!!!

Hugs chaps you have no idea how much you have helped.

BRB in the garden and is looking grand

Ooooooh I have a new addition to the freezer.

    A puffin

    Wonderful eh?

Well he's gorgeous but sadly dead starved we think, so a pal asked us to keep him for a puffin autopsy - see what's in his tummy - sadly hes a bit size zero cos he's so thin (lack of food stuff I think sand eels scarce foods hard for the birds and lots of sea birds suffering here) but he's gorgeous (if a little dead).

You might get a smile out of the additon to the freezer and not much eating on him it has to be said!

DD passed her grade 4 cello
Got a whole school cup for music (unheard of in first year) and 7 awards at school (yeah both kids are dyslexic - slightly - I always blamed their dad - whoops :))
DS passed all his 3rd year exams

Peedie went swimming in the sea today , big deal as he's quite scared - bless.

Darwin STILL in the car hospital - having a holiday rethink, no France I think maybe just the land of the Eng's via Edinburgh and Fife for a bit

Hugs and kisses to you all. xx

Your Uni are barking. As pilfered from London Met. Unis website :

The degrees of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) are awarded by the University after the successful presentation of a thesis based on a piece of research completed under the supervision of University staff. To obtain a PhD the candidate is expected to investigate a topic and make an original contribution to knowledge. Research at MPhil level should represent an extension of existing knowledge, although the demands of originality and sustained enquiry are less than those for a PhD.

A PhD is simply a MPhil with lots more paperwork (about 100,000 more words). If you can do one then you can definately do the other. Of course it may help your case to point out that the Nobel Prize winning Albert Einstein was dyslexic as were Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Eddison, Michael Farraday, Sir Isaac Newton, both the Wright brothers, Winston Churchill, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Dwight Eisenhower, Hans Christian Anderson and Richard Branson.

sending you hugs Fay, i'm so angry on your behalf, they definately should not be able to do this to you, but you need to take the next two weeks to check things out and decide what YOU want.
It was lovely to read your posts about your day with DS and peedie, way to go peedie for swimming in the sea! It's been easy to see from this side how much recent events have brought you down so it's nice to see you've had a happy day.

Don't let them get you down. If you still want to do it go for it and make as big a stink as possible about how un-supportive they have been. Everybody has a right to education.

And if you are in Fife you are more than welcome to pop by here - just bring me a packet of Brown's of Westray Cabin Biscuits :D.

Sorry not been around but finally caught up with things. Hope the dyslexia association can help you out as it certainly doesn't sound like tey sould be able to do that to you.

    Good luck.

Me thinks we need to send out a search party. Three days without the stripey goddess is unheard of.
