Well done for keeping me on the straight and narrow :) all of your words were in my head yesterday.

Crappy day at work, my dyslexia has been cited as a reason to not continue me on my PhD programme - they are working out a new work programme for me.

Hey ho no doctor of flowers for me!

I am taking two weeks out of work to take advice revist the educational psychologist and work through any bits of fuddledheaddedness from the dyslexia.

I think the stress levels I experienced are more to do with an !!!!!! of a supervisor which has made things worse - so I am entirely blaming him for everything.

    OF COURSE

Also taking advice from both Uni's and the dyslexia association and so on.

Madame stripes takes nothing sitting down.

All it means I think is that I do the same work, in less time and get an MPhil instead of a PhD -
sounds ace eh? But they reckon its all I can manage.

Morning to you all, OH on his way up to potentially chuck evil supervisor off peir. (We know where he lives - small island this).

Promise normal stripeyservice resume as soon as possible

Funny when I tried to raise issues with supervision they just dismissed it.

TWO WEEKS OFF - WWWWWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Grrrr Fay, I'm annoyed on your behalf! How dare they cite your dyslexia as a reason not to continue on the PhD programme! If you can do an MPhil, you can do a PhD! You might need some support with your writing, but you obviously don't have a problem with the actual research.

You're right not to take it lying down! I'm so angry for you! Bah! Get the Dyslexia Association on your side - any maybe try ringing up a couple of other universities to see what their policy is? I know Sheffield Hallam has a very good student support service (not where I'm PhD-ing, but where I do occasional support work for others). Don't know about anywhere else.

    Grr, I'm so cross!

At least you get 2 weeks off though - hooray! :)
  • Kick them in the bahoonies. They took you on in the first place and have been sadly lacking on the support front...it is discrimination. You certainly have the capability and the know how. They cannot dismiss the supervisor issue, because it is an issue.

Good luck Fay and i hope the time off gives you chance to charge your batteries.

That's Discrimination! They should not be able to use that as a reason for you not to continue with your studies. Ok they didn't know about it BUT it is a reason to allow you some extra time to get the support that you need. SENDA requires a HEI to make reasonable adjustements for you to be able to study.

Can I suggest you contact your Students' Union's (Association in Scotland) advice service too.

sounds ace eh? But they reckon its all I can manage. One possible way forward as a way of getting back in is, to say that if you are able to prove that, with the right support for your dyslexia (which you are entitled to - speak to the Ed Psych), that you can continue towards the Dr of Flowers.

Morning to you all, OH on his way up to potentially chuck evil supervisor off peir. (We know where he lives - small island this). Lots of us here to join you.
