Yum, SPUDS :) I fear I may have expensive tastes now, got a "free" Abel & Cole mixed box last week when I spent £20 (mainly on organic wine which is deeeelish and no hangover, hoorah!)...and the spuds were the best ever....Tesco value spuds just aren't cutting it now :(

Am I too late to do whatever it is you're supposed to do to spuds to grow them in the garden wot I've not yet dug over or swept up the mountains of leaves from next door's oak tree?

DD's got chickenpox, bless her. She asked why she's got them (it's sweeping through nursery for the nth time, along with measles -luckily she won't have that as she had the MMR jab), so we agreed that the 'pops' are having a party on her body, any excuse to drag out her 4th birthday celebrations for longer :)

    Hiya

Firsstly hugs to DD - pops party is great. xx

    Potatoes
not to late to plant some and you can dig the garden if you like or be lazy like me and grow them in containers - almost zero effort aside watering and then turn out tub - potatotastic - If I were you I'd see which ones Kane and Able have been sending you and get some from a local seed merchant or if you cant find them a garden catalogue place (seeds etc) will have tatties but you probably need to get a wriggle on - or go to B and Q or somewhere and get what they have.

Our local seed merchant has about 30 differnt types of potatoes - we love King Edwards - so I grow lots of them - some Golden wonders and a few other salad type potatoes and anythign that is sprouting in the cupboard.

If you want to grow them in containers I can point you 'roughly' int he right direction - growbags, compost bags, ikea bags, tubs, trugs etc all work for tatties.
Or you can dig the patch outside or raise it up and not dig it - they will however taste far nicer than anything you have ever bought - TRUE HONEST - as if you pick them then eat them the sugars etc are still in the veggies for about an hour or so before they start to slightly degrade and they vanish - so just dug veggies do taste better - and think of hte carbon you'll be saving by not transporting the stuff so far (I know K and A don't use aeroplanes etc and are pretty good) but they aren't as close as your back yard xx

Sorry - not lecturing - my two favourite things - food and saving the planet:D:D

  • I didn't know whether to plant some spuds i had that have sprouted. I bought them from Tesco's and not the nicest spuds i have tasted. (Hence the reason for sprouting) Think i will just compost them and go and get some other ones.

Hmm elephants you say - IMAGINE - the amount of meals you could get out of one of those (AKA rubber elephant) (and no I don't have one, best not mention the woolly mammoth though:D)

MY OH hates mushrooms - so what was in the lovley meatballs I made when he critisied my driving of darwin one day?????

    50% beef 45% Mushrooms 5% bread.

    Works like a charm.

Told him half way through the meal - cruel cruel lady - I wonder why I live alone.

My DS claims to hate lots of things that I always stick in meatballs anyway, he was helping me make them one night though and seemed surprised when he realised there was parmesan and onion in there! still ate them though so all good.

You've inspired me - I'm seriously thinking about growing some fruit/veg. Not that I've actually bought anything yet but in my defence it was a bit sleaty earlier..
