    Hi Fay,

All those almost teenage girls in the house - can't say I envy you that!! GOOD LUCK.

Read your post about your finances and sending best wishes for all your efforts. TBH I'm not actually in debt myself, but need to keep a constant eye on the ball, as wouldn't want to slip backwards and it's easily enough done!

Have enjoyed a smile reading this far, looking forward to many more laughs.
    Liz

When I lived down south my flatmate had a boyfriend who was into catwoman (Michelle Pffeifer or however you spell it!), so she insisted we go to SoHo and get a PVC catsuit for her. Only once there she got all shy and insisted I go in and get her a catsuit, now I'm tiny and at the time had short traffic light red hair and she was VERY tall. So the looks I got asking for something in her size said it all. We searched everywhere and could not get her a bull whip. Even the shop in Soho that catered for those that frequented a club called "Torture Garden" (don't ask please don't ask, the assistant got quite excited and told us....yep she got no choice I dragged her in.....don't mess with fire haired...albeit dyed pixie goth....all about the Torture Garden), didn't have any but managed to sell her a riding crop, this thing was fierce and I mean fierce!!!!

On the night she decided to don all this I was in and had decided on an early night. In hindsight I really should have gone out. The noises I heard well tried to blot out, then I heard a yell (preceeded by a swishing sound), then them both yelling, a thump, then a very loud cracking sound, followed by a crash and lots of screaming and i mean screaming!!!!!

I realised something was wrong and ran next door, it took me a second to lose the rabbit lost in headlights look as I tried to take it the scary scene.

Seems they'd gotten carried away, she climbed onto her dressing table (which was bolted to the side of the wardrobe) and was going to pounch on him with this crop. She lost her footing brought dressing table and wardrobe with her on top of him. The bed frame collapsed too leaving them in a mess of broken wood. I finally managed to extract them and took them to hospital. Both apart from splinters in delicate places were fine.

I just spent the evening denying I knew them at the hospital (they were still in costume).

When she moved out she left behind one thing ..... the crop.... with a note attached to it. "Brought too much bad luck leaving it here". .....Yeah, gee thanks!!!!!

Captial one CC [limit -500] – £495 (usually pay balance each month due 12th Feb)

Lloyds CC – [liimit 1000] £250.28 (usually try pay balance each month due 2nd march)

*RBS is really high interest - last 3 months interest was £120 - not sure what to do about this at all - any suggestions welcomed.

I use CC's for food and petrol - I have used my two 1000 overdrafts to pay off the cc so live in OD and use CC to pay for daily life.

    Any better suggestions welcomed.
I figure with less money in bank (i am not fooled into thinking I have more)
So I pay the full CC each month - but forgot and only the DD for the min went out at Xmas - and I got interest which really annoyed me so hoping diary will help with that.

I have 746.19 CR in my savings account - which is where I dump money from lodger etc etc etc - had to dip into this in January to pay off cc and write some cheques.

    EXTRA INCOME
Extra work I do at the moment:
    Dog sitting - £40 a month
Lodger chap B&B - £125 a week - expenses about £50 ? (I use this money to pay for a Cleaner £25 and then need deduct some money for his food/electric) probalbly clear about £300 a month - but he's only with us for another 6 weeks or so

Lodger girl - £250 a month at the mo - then up to £285 on 23rd Feb here for a year
    Plant sales: ?
    Extra sales and work:?

    Any ideas welcomed.:D

    ....

    Ok finance bit.

If you have saving why not use some to clear either capital one or your overdraft? There's a sticky at top of the board for an SOA template (standard format) makes it easier to see where money is going.

Keep a spending diary too, its amazing where it all goes!

I think you said you work in cards not cash. Why not budget an amount for the week and stick to it in cash. If its not in your purse you can't spend it. Would you have time for a second job? What about checking out some of the ideas on the Up your Income board? Also sign up for ALL the surveys you can (and click through sites). Every little helps.

  • Ta unixgirl - I will post another SOA - make it a bit easier for folks to see it....
A second job - well I do B and B for the lodger chap who is with us - so thats £25 a day - (half hour in morning, half hour at night) it is at home so it works around the kids - but there are house expenses with that (cleaner and his food)

Other room is let out and that income is about 285 a month (no food)

I was working in the summer as a farm-person - only a couple hours a day - but to be honest as much fun as it was - it ate too much of my phd time. I can barely hang together doing this!!)

(I am sure some of the guys remember remember my 'losing' cows and sheep on a daily basis.)

I'd like another job sometimes, but I am living on my own here and don't really know anyone - and to be honest I like being at home as much as I can be for the kids - so childcare etc I don't really want to get into (which I know is very lazy and very not really dunno - proactive) but we have been through so much that I don't want to waste any time I do have with them doing another job. (hence the debt eh - silly old me)

Its not that I am by any means an amazing mum - but I am their mum and I don't have any one to back me up babysitting wise. I sound so controlling - I have thought about a job in a pub or something - but as they get older the kids are up later and it just seems to be so difficult - see you have spotted I am lazy.

Otherwise I do use quidco - and I cook everything at home from scratch just about - to save money - we do frugal shops after 7pm too to raid our local supermarket for the big yellow sticker stuff.

I grow veggies and flowers too - I did make an excellent farmers wife - I just loved it all - clearly just not good enough though well at least my ex didnt think so!!

I haven't really looked into clicks etc - need to do that I guess.

In the summer months I tend to grow and sell plants (on ebay and from home) to supplement things - but its not as good as a job I know, but it works around the kids.

OD's are free - and I use them to pay the cc - savings I know I should put them to something, I use them as a kinda safety net (martin shut your ears).

    Hi Fay

Just read all 7 pages with a big smile on my face, cheered me up no end on a Friday afternoon at work - a Friday afternoon that has not, as promised, transformed into FAT FRIDAY (ie no pastries have materialised in the office. Bah)

Will subscribe, can't wait for updates! You are living my dream xx
    My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

Total £4151.44 | £2900.30 of £7051.74 paid off since diary started October 2024.
  • Afternoon. I have a slightly...actually very anal budget. Have a little section for all sorts of things. Some are paid by direct debit others by taking a set amount of cash out each week (food, fags, petrol). For some I transfer a set amount to a savings account and on another page have little sub headings...i.e car insurance. The hope being I will never have to use a credit card again. Bagof compost that turned into a £50 spend or on one occassion a rabbit, hutch and all the bubbins are a thing of the past. Go to the corner shop to buy milk with £2 you'll buy milk. Go with a card you'll buy allsorts. Working this out made me realise just how little money i had 'floating around' each month. I have a hard back book, gold and glittery, and spend happy hours gazing at columns of figures and realising with glee that telly license was only 9.95 this month whereas I had budgeted 12.00 so had an extra 2.05 to throw at some debt. I am easily pleased and excited...especially where riding crops are concerned;)

If you want the details (of my budget not my crop activities!) I'm happy to share but it may well be my own personal perversion that enjoys the number crunching.

Have you got a website for your plants.....I have a small budget from school to buy some stuff so I would be happy to help you out.
