For those of you trying to quit, I remember how hard it is, keep at it, you will get there

barrys-lass for cravings try drinking a glass of water and just keep busy, this used to help loads.
Part of the reason I wanted to quit was because I was 26 at the time and I was developing a smokers cough to the point where most nights I was wheezy and in the morning I would cough quite a lot upon waking and climbing stairs/hills was killing me. I thought nows probably a good time to quit before it gets any worse.
Nicotine is more addictive than heroin so it's hardly surprising that it's not easy to 'give up'.0 -
I smoke!! Until my lightbulb moment I was getting through about 20 a day (with my OH helping me!). Due to my new budgeting, I by 3 packs on a Friday (weekly payday) and if I want to smoke every day I have to make them last!! (that's now only 60 a week instead of 140!) And to be honest, its been easy!!
I did give up through hypnosis in January 2006. It was the best £35 I ever spent - and I went feeling particularly sceptical!! It lasted 6 months (until I went on holiday) and in that time I never had a craving or even the desire to smoke at all. It was as if I had never smoked.... and my OH still smoked and you could still smoke in a pub then. No probs at all! I am now thinking of going back as even if it only lasts 6 months again, at £35 its better than the £390 I spend every 6 months now on cigarettes!start = Wed 19th Nov 2008 £21,225
end = Mon 28th Sept 2015 DEBT FREE!
I love a good plan - it may not work.... but I love a good plan!0 -

CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN when i quit 3 years ago i had the cleanest house ever .It was the only thing that helped, every time i wanted a tab i picked up the bleach etc.Kept my mind off it and hands busy. Before i knew it ,it was 6 weeks later. Its still hard some times if stressed etc.Which by the way im alot less stressed since i quit.
It is hard but don t stop trying,i went from 30 a day to zero.
Can i also ask if your name comes from the shop barrys in consett (i love that shop )Life is short, smile while you still have teeth

I quit smoking by looking up pictures of lung cancer on the internet. They were disgusting and really put me off, so I printed one out and stuck it to the fridge. Every time I fancied a cig I went and looked at the picture. It also made sure I didn't replace smoking with comfort eating because the lungs put me off my food as well

I was a cow to live with though.0 -

I quit smoking on 09/09/2008 and it was hard!! According to my other half I was only a nightmare to be around for the first two days :rotfl: I sent him out at eight o clock at night to find me cake on the first day

I still miss it sometimes, as I think only ex-smokers can understand, but to put it in perspective, I paid for Christmas for the first time without resorting to a credit card (First time since I left home in 1998!) so it has been worth it.
I really hope I'm not one of those ex-smokers though...:rotfl::rotfl: If people want to smoke they can, just don't be surprised if I'm behind you at the bus-stop inhaling deeply
