Barclays Froze my £19k for no reason - please help !!!

The idea that, just because it is our money, we can have it when we want it is ridiculous!
Even after preordering the money, if Barclays change their minds; tough!
They are, after all, looking after our interests!

...except if they think it's money laundering, and that's why the funds are frozen, they CAN'T tell the customer why they've frozen the funds, by law - regardless of the amount of money concerned. Sorry, but that's rubbish. SONIA still has the funds in her name, she just cannot access them. That's not theft. If that were the case, every single case in which a customer couldn't get at their funds for whatever reason - branch closure, power cut - would be theft. And Barclays are fully entitled to restrict withdrawals if they suspect fraud or money laundering.0 -

Barclays did this to me too, i paid in a cheque for £25,500 from Prudential Insurance, when the cheque had cleared i rang Barclays to arrange for a withdrawel of £15000 to be collected a few days later, no problem said nice lady at barclays customer service i will arrange it with your branch.
On going to my branch 3days later i was told NO i couldn't have the money it had been frozen by the fraud department. I had to tell them where the cheque had come from and why i had received it. They were still not satisfied and said did i have any proof that the cheque was mine and had been sent to me. So i had to go home and empty the wheely bin to find the full and final settlement solicitors letter which accompanied the cheque,which i had thrown away when cheque had cleared, then back to the bank again. They took the letter and made some phone calls, then said i still couldn't have the money until Prudential insurance had confirmed they had issued the cheque to me.
I flatly refused to leave the bank until i received my cash, by then my husband had turned up(left work early) so we both sat there in barclays for about 4 hours slagging them off to everyone that came in, (seems like it was quite a regular occurence at the branch judging by peoples comments).
Suddenly we were asked by one of the staff if we would like a coffee then low and behold the manager appeared and asked how i wanted my cash.0 -

thanks for all your replies, guys.
to clarify things, exactly £10.1k was cash deposits, made up of 3 deposits (2.6k+4.5k+3k) and around £8.3k was BACS from my own Natwest account (which is now empty), the rest from Paypal and a little bit of child benefits. therefore the full £19k wasn't cash deposit ...!
If they consider this to be money laundering :eek: , and like you guys said, they are not allowed to tell me this by law (if they think thats the case)...
when exactly will i find out whats going to happen to my money???
will i get my money or will it remain frozen and they won't even give me a reason, if they think its money laundering???
i think i got myself involved in a big trouble by putting this money into my account _pale_
When i spoke to my case-handler in Customer Relations today and tuesday, he did ask if i still wanted the money (on both occassions)??? which was quite strange...why did he ask that as the account is frozen anyway?
Shall i just ask this guy (my contact in customer relations) tomorrow myself that what proofs he would need for me to prove its legit money or what shall i do??? i am confused as hell...
please help !!!0
