I'm not one for talking about them, it must be a typically female thing, you obviously gain from speaking about them.~~~~~~~~~~~~Halifax, taking the Xtra since 1853:rolleyes:~~~~~~~~~~~~0

My fiance was diagnosed with a rare form of arthritis in June 2007. It's called Psoriatic Arthritis and is a bit like Rheumatoid in which the immune system attacks itself.
He's also been diagnosed with Psoriatic Spondylitis in his lower back.
He takes weekly injections of Methotrexate (usually used for severe cancers) and Humaira fortnightly by injection also. As well as folic acid once a day.
Due to severe pain he's in and the lack of sleep...the consultant has now prescribed Amitriptyline to help him sleep.
We just hope he stays well enough for the wedding *fingers crossed*;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)0 -
Hope the amitriptyline helps! It certainly makes a little difference to my pain levels0

Ok here goes! Lol!
I have just turned 25 and 8 months ago was diagnosed with Severe Rheumatoid Arthritis. From my first symptoms to my diagnosis was exactly 6 weeks to the day. My main areas that are effected are my hands, wrists, jaw and feet. Although I do have some symptoms in my hips and knees. In the past 10 years I have had 23 operations on my feet and have some lovely metal work in there!
I inject Methetrexate weekly, and daily I take Naproxen, Plaquenil, Folic acid, Co-Codamol and Tramadol..................I think if I was able to jump I could play some really good rattly tunes!
I have been off work for 8 months but am planning to return at the end of the month, have no idea how this will go as I am incredibly tired all the time but hey! Would keep my fingers crossed that it goes well if I could but I cant! Lol!Its hard to wait around for that something you know may never happen, but its harder to give up when you know its everything you ever wanted.........
People tell me Im going the wrong way..............when its simply a way of my own!0 -
My turn I suppose, but I don't really consider myself disabled.
I have had 3 heart attacks, 1 possible stroke and have been diagnosed with severe heart failure and told I have 5 years max before my heart gives out. Come out of hospital on Monday after having second angyogram and plasti with stint in 2 months. I try to stay cheerfull, but some days are harder than others.
But when I see what you guys and girls have to put up with I don't feel disabled.
Big hugs to all :beer:I used to be me !! what happened0 -

i suffer from a reaccurant depressi ve disorder and borderline personality disorder. I've suffered with the depression for over 10 years now (i'm 22) but the boderline has only been a recent diagnosis. I was working then got signed off sick for a few months and then work "processed me as a leaver" (they sent the warning letters about a late sick note to my old address so i never recieved them:mad:). So now i'm jobless and peniless and lost in a sea of benefit claims whihc are confusing the hell out of me!
its frustrating suffering from mental illness as there's still many people who don't consider you to be disabled as its not a pyhsical thingThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Wow - always amazes me the tenacity of some people - I really admire you guys! I have depression and hypothyroidism and while on holiday in the States for the summer this year (am sitting writing this in Nashville TN) had to go to the hospital...turns out I have PCOS and they're now worried about diabetes. *Technically* my last blood test in UK showed my insulin levels as normal, but the GP's I've had have all been such screw-ups that I don't trust them - took ones in England 3+ years to diagnose thyroid problem, and even then I only knew about it as received a phone call after a blood test telling me to come in for my repeat prescription...at this point I wasn't on any meds, but turns out they'd known about my illness for years and said I should have been prescribed meds ages ago.
So yeah...I'm lucky in that nothing is life-threatening, but the PCOS especially has knocked me for six. I'm only 22 after all.

I have Asperger Syndrome and Triple X Syndrome. I care for my partner who is Paraplegic and my two adult sons who have Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties, Challenging Behaviour and are non-verbal. One son (18) is in residential school (52 weeks) and one (20) is in residential college (term-time). No, I couldn't cope if they were both home all the time! It was bad enough when they were small. I am sitting here with bruised arms from having my youngest home today.0

Just wanted to send hugs... I was also diagnosed with PCOS at 22 but unfortunately now at 28 it has gone very much downhill to the extent its affecting my life in a major way.
I have hypoglycemia (sp?) as a direct side-effect of PCOS but unfortunately I had to come off the meds due to side effects so have to manage it myself. Make sure they sort it out for you - its thanks to the doctors incompetence that Im the way I am now  it is a lot to take in, just remember to look after yourself!!
Hugs, Mrs_R xx
