Ending an broadband contract early - where do I stand?

I recently found out i'm being made redundant at the end of April and will need to move out of my flat and back with the parents for a few months.
I signed up for a 12 month contract with Tiscali broadband at the end of October. Is there a way to get out of this contract early without having to stump up 6 months payments for a service I'm not going to use?
Also similar story with house insurance...
Help?

If your moving thats a reasonable end of contract for a utility I'd say and insurance you may be able to suspend the policy or get a refund of remaining term paid minus admin charges0

Ignore the last poster, poor advice with the utility point. Just because you move house is not a reasonable end to a contract.
You've agreed to 12 months service, if you want out of it then you'll have to pay off the remaining months service or transfer the service to your parents place.
They're the only options you have.0 -
It seems reasonable to me, doesnt mean Tiscali would be but its worth discussing.
NTL for example will discontinue service if you move but will also wish to carry over to the new address if its in their catchment area, it may well be that tiscali would do the same as they are in the same service sector
Here is a more appropriate forum to ask on:

NTL/Virgin will not discontinue service for a house move, as they deliver their product over a standard BT telephony line now as well. As a Virgin customer i'm well aware of the terms & conditions of their service. As Tiscali's service is delivered under the same bracket the excuse of 'catchment area' is not applicable whatsoever.
I can guarantee that they will expect either the payment for the outstanding months left on the contract or the other option is that you'll have to carry on the service at the new address (Which im assuming is one to rule out as your parents would have phone/bb already).0 -
Or if you can get FUP for downloading too much during peak hours, they'll gladly ask you to leave without penalty:p
Have to say I haven't heard many people getting FUPs these days, so don't know if there are still FUPs...0 -
qqusaver...do you live in a mud hut? " I haven't heard many people getting FUPs these days" wth is that supposed to mean? Most ISPs have a FUP, how and if they impliment is different for each, but they are still used, though it is very rare that ISPs ask users to leave, they are far more likely to just throttle the connection, or certain protocols.
As discussed on here ad nauseum, a broadband contract is...er...a contract, it needs paying, a thread a few weeks ago showed that even death is not a good excuse for getting out of the contract (though I think the ISP were eventually sympathetic), so moving house has no chance.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
Thanks for the advice. I pretty much guessed they wouldn't accept me cancelling the contract with no charge and my parents already have broadband so transferring isn't an option. I'll ask if they can suspend it until I get my own place again which hopefully won't be long!0

I'm no advocate of anyone having tiscali...but....if your parents are out of contract you could maybe cancel their broadband and move your tiscali connection there, though it would lead to a new contract starting!Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

Been with Tiscali since 2001 or thereabouts. It was a popular topic in their forums. Been quiet for a while. Perhaps they don't do that anymore.0 -
Going down the FUP policy route is pointless if the OP is moving out very soon.0
