Flydrive package vs flight and seperate car rental

Agree with everything you except your recommendation of broker. Checked them out but I'm looking at prices showing a £50 saving on an intermediate for four weeks next Feb with like for like terms. Best bet is shop around then phone Holiday Autos who normally break their necks just to secure your biz. Broke 'em hard and watch the sites for a while if you can as rates tend to yo-yo quite a bit.0

I would never take the car hire that is included with a fly drive from the UK.
Why? My fly-drive return family trip cost > 1K less than the same flight-only trip using the same flight by the same airline company. Plus we got LDW, SLI and UMP all thrown in.
Incidentally, why was this? Never got my head around it?0 -
I didn't say that I wouldn't book a fly-drive, as these can often work out much cheaper than the flight only option. However, in my own experience, any fly-drive packages that I have ever booked, do not include insurances for the car provided. And in general these insurances are much more expensive on arrival than when pre-booked. There is an additional tax added to all payments made at the airport in Florida.
Again, this is only my own experience, I have been twelve times, and will always take seperate car hire whether I am booking a fly-drive or flight only package.Working hard to as a MSE to be MF on our own peice of the Magic

OK, but I reckon that I have all the necessary car insurance included as part of my deal. All booked on the flyglobespan website.
Is it eg. Mytravel and Expedia etc that want the extra insurance payments?0 -
As long as you have the insurance included you should not have this problem.
I found the problem was with Airtours, Mytravel, Travelcitydirect and one other whose name I can't recall.
Just check to make sure you have insurance, a few pounds saved now, could cost a lot if you find out you have no insurance when something happens.Working hard to as a MSE to be MF on our own peice of the Magic

We wanted to book a flydrive with Virgin. The internet price was £4,500 including all insurance. At the same time you could get the same flights for £3,400 - so they were effectively charging £1,100 for the car for 3 weeks. I could get at least two recommended car hire companies (on site at Orlando International) to quote me the same level car for £450.....so I think people should go into such deals with their eyes open.
We ended up booking with a travel agent who got us a flydrive using US Airways for £3,300 all in. This was actually cheaper than booking the flights on there own direct with the airline!! Madness!!
Also - in an attempt to use our Tesco's vouchers - we also had a quote from Virgin for flights, car hire and villa. This came out at over £6,000! At that price I'd rather book elsewhere and use the vouchers on something else!!0 -
Hi, I Book Flights Completely separately to Car Hire. I Book my Car Direct with Dollar on the US Site dollar.com (Not .UK)
Book the Cheapest car Possible, as I always do, and lat year was offend an Upgrade for $10.00 a Day ($210.00 for the 3 weeks) and we could Choose any Car we WANTED. We had a Lincoln Town Car which was Huge.
The Basic Cost to book on the US Site is Half what it is on the UK Site0 -

The difference between an economy car and a premium car booked over here is about £100 for 3 weeks, so similar to the upgrade price you paid but guaranteed. Also the insurance offered on the US website is basic and to upgrade to the level you would get by booking a "gold or platinum" option over here will cost a lot more at the airport.0 -
What happens if I do not pick up the car included in my flydrive package? Will I get charged any extra?
I am thinking about booking a hire car seperately.0
