Is anyone cutting back their holidays this year?

On the back of the thread about new jobs in Pontins just wondered if anyone was booked/staying at home/going on cheap holiday!
I have to say I would rather stay at home than go to Pontins! Mainly as I went to a place similar to that to visit relatives who were spending a week there and the rooms were awful! I need somewhere that is immaculately clean or I cannot sleep there never mind doing anything else! (if you know what I mean

Yes, last year, private villa with pool, no expense spared. This year, apartment with shared pool (in a quiet, private gated complex). Still going to my favourite destination but have more than halved the cost. Also flying in-direct rather than direct has cut hundreds off the price.
I freely admit that I am a bit of a snob when it comes to holidays and I am sure people will seize upon that! Pontins and Butlins and the like just won't cut it for me!0 -
Although you can make local holidays cheap'er' you can't make them cheap like a shoddy package deal to alacante is or something of that nature.
However given both offerings i'd rather not go anywhere. Went on holiday twice last year andt he year before to the carribean and (wales - it was very hot remarkably) Egypt and Turkey the year before. i'm all holidayed out.
Time to knuckle down this year and keep a job.
I can't afford to to go Las Vegas on a big rolling bender so i'm just going to sit at home and moan!0 -
I was thinking of going to France, Spain and other Euro countries, but am now considering Iceland, Morocco and Turkey.
Hopefully next year the Pound will be stronger against the Euro.0 -
Nope, we're having two this year. Skiing next week and Western USA in July. Though I still haven't booked accommodation for the skiing as I'm hoping to get a last minute recession bargain. It worked last year so hopefully it will work again. What goes around - comes around0

Gordon Brown doesn't value my savings & prudence and wants me to spend, spend, spend.
Ever obliging I will do my best to invest in some foreign holidays.0 -
Reckon I'll be unemployed for a fair part of this year so probably no need to holiday, thought I might have a 6 week sojurn in Brazil over summer as the job market will be even deader then!0

Whole long thread on this done recently - anyone kind enough to find it?
I can't be bothered to repost on the same subject, but maybe this will be fun for others who missed the original.0 -

I've had a bit of a quandary.
I have no debts and save every month.
On one hand I might need the savings in the near future.
On the other hand money might become near worthless at some point, so why not spend it on something fun?
I've decided to steer a course through the middle and continue as normal.Happy chappy0 -
If we go away we'll probably just stay in Britain. But I really wouldn't mind having a holiday at home. There's a lot to see in Staffordshire, I think I'm lucky to live here with the views.
Only snag is I do like to see the sea. :cool:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
