Could someone explain what this means, is it that they'll estimate that my ASHP system will last 25 years, calculate from my SAP report / installation consultant report that I need ~24kw system, and pay me the resulting £££ figure split over a seven year period.
Maybe I'm just being thick but I just aren't sure what it means
That looks more like a mathimatical equation rather than a sentence and I was crap at maths at school so who knows...
Any cash in the bank is welcome0 -
As I read it, the heat requirement of your property will have a "deemed heat requirement" that annual figure will be multiplied by the tariff that will in turn be multiplied 20 (years) then divided by 7 and that amount will be paid annually for 7 years0

Jeepjunkie, I'll now demonstrate my superb mathematical skillz
So, estimated total energy requirment in kWh/year for my place is 63923 ()
Multiply that by, say 8p/kWh and we get £5113.84
Multiply that by life span of units, say 20 years and we get £102276.80
Divide that by 7 and we get £14610.97
FOURTEEN GRAND A YEAR FOR SEVEN YEARS, A HUNDRED AND THREE GRAND TOTAL.
Someone show me where I went wrong with the calculations 'cos I've very clearly got something very very wrong!
Even politicians don't claim that much on expenses.....A pair of 14kw Ecodans & 39 radiators in a big old farm house in the frozen north :cool:0 -

The 63923 looks extremely high. From my calculations 63923 amounts to 175Kwh/day or the equivalent of 7 1kW electric heaters on permanently 24 hrs/day, 7 days/week.
For comparison my combined annual gas and electric consumption for a 4 bedroom house is about 14000Kwh.0 -
I think you are calculating it wrong, they are working the subsidy assuming the system has a life of 20 years but structuring it to give a higher level of payment over the first seven years. So the proposed level will be the deemed annual heat requirement x between 6.9p - 11.5p for 7 years. So in your calculation above you will get £5113.84 per year for 7 years or £35796.88 in total. They also state in one of the documents that they intend to exclude second homes so I don't know if that affects you TiredGeek.0

Don't be surprised if the payments seem generous. An example from the non-domestic sector RHI which has been running for for the last 6-7 months (in Scotland too, Cardew).
70 kw biomass boiler install cost £45,000
pay back > £7,000 a year for 20 years index linked
total well in excess of £150,000.
Actually the private sector has been remarkably slow on the uptake possibly due to the initial capital investment and fear of "new technologies."0 -
First off, they won't exclude us, as if need be we'll flip houses, if politicians can do it then so can we!
Second, in the earlier proposals second homes actually qualify so hopefully that'll stay the same. They wanted people to stop using oil so included "holiday homes".
Third, Scotland will never become independent. There's simply too much English money, and English people up there for it ever to go through, even if the natives do vote for it. Politicians know where the money comes from and they'll be very happy to stay on the gravy train. They'll make noises about it of course, but in the end they'll only be thinking of their own pockets....there's no one more self serving than a jock politician.
As for the energy consumption of our place, that figure was produced from a survey of the house, levels of insulation and location.
I'm not sure exactly what the figure relates to though: it says "Total annual energy requirement of dwelling = 63923 kWh" and next is "Total annual energy consumption of heat pump system = 20026 kWh"
If they base the payment on the first number then I'm having a nice V12 Aston Martin to offset my low carbon footprint (I'll have the money after all), if it's on the second then I'm still happyA pair of 14kw Ecodans & 39 radiators in a big old farm house in the frozen north :cool:0 -
On my ASHP MCS cert it says...
Estimated Annual Generation (kWh):
41180.00
What does this mean in relation to proposed RHI payments ?
