You will get half the help as he has half the liability.

If he works, i don't think you will gain any help.

However I think you should speak to your local CAB to double check.

Have you 'paid' him off ? Does he have a claim on the property ? How about the deeds ?

If your claiming carers allowance, you might come unstuck as you can't do a full time course on it.

If you've accepted responsibility for 100% of the payments and he makes no contribution whatsoever, then you should get the full amount of smi help, even if he is still named on the mortgage.

I understand that you can get help with your mortgage interest after 13 weeks. Do they have to be successive weeks? It's just that I signed off for a short time when I had a temp job. That has come to an end and I'm signing on again. Am I now back at week one?

    Thanks for your help, guys!

i *think* if you signed off to start a job then you go back to week one. if you signed off for another reason then you start at same place.

what are the rules for someone who has seasonal work or can only find a job for say 2-3 months, can they keep claiming smi or does the whole claim last only two years from the first time you claim, even if inbetween you find work and need to claim jsa again, hope you understand what i am saying .

If the mortgage is joint but OH has moved out (separated) would I be able to claim for SMI?

Normally yes, if OH is not contributing anything and you have accepted responsibility for the full amount

Yes I was able to claim when my XH moved out and I was paying the mortgage.
