Has anyone experienced Support for Mortgage Interest being stopped after changing mortgage provider ? I've done it before without any problems. Are there any new rules ?0

SMI should not cease when you change lender (assuming the amounts are the same). However, there may be a delay whilst the account details are changed over. Could I ask who you were able to get a new deal with?Gone ... or have I?0

Interesting that this thread has no comments regarding the governments intention to HALVE support for mortgage interest with almost immediate effect.0

I put in a claim for Job Seeker's Allowance in December 2010, and had to wait the 13 weeks for my SMI to kick in.
What I didn't expect was that it would affect my JSA to the tune of almost £20 per week.
I only have a mortgage of £36,500, which costs me around £18 per week in interest, but am having £19.98 per week taken out of my benefit.
I realise that there is nothing I can do about the £1.98 overpayment, but there was nothing on the Directgov website to say that it would affect my benefit and leave me with £42 per week to live on.
My husband is on DLA and IB and we have no savings or pension to fall back on.
I wrote to and rang my local benefit's administration centre, but never got an answer as to why this is happening. At this rate, it's not a benefit but an alternative way of paying my mortgage myself. I don't think the extra £1.98 per week is going to have much of an affect on lowering my payments next year.
I presume that if I had a £200k mortgage they would be taking my £42 as well.0 -
could someone please advise if i would be eligable for SMI. I am finishing in my job at end of august to start a full time college course, I have been advised i will be receiving income support, as I have a 3 year child who i currently get DLA for. I have a mortgage of £79000, but its in joints names, as my ex partner is still on the mortgage, I have NO arrears. He hasnt contributed to the mortgage for 2 years, but is currently still on the mortgage. I have no involvment with him. Could I still claim this as a single claim as he still works. But I receive benefits as a single parent?
kind regards
