If you applied online, you can call them up on the prospects line (0800 242424) and ask for an update. They were able to give me indicative limits at this point. However, you won't know if you're DEFINITELY accepted until they've got the application form back from you and opened the account.

FD are great - I recently joined myself. Only criticism is that when I phone them - albeit they are very helpful and friendly, they seem to try to deal with your banking query as quickly as possible so they can start trying to flog you something else. If you're not interested in this just be firm and say you're not interested. It's the same whenever I go into an HSBC branch - I always get collared about a mortgage or credit card. Again, if you don't want anything just say "not today thanks" - don't hesitate because they'll have you!

But apart from that minor irritation, the service with FD is second to none.

I have to say I haven't encountered this at all. They haven't tried to flog me anything.

I am not sure whether we will have qualified for the £100 or not, we have just switched over to them and taken a mortgage with them. started the process in Feb.

More to the point, HSBC branches SHOULDN'T be trying to flog First Direct customers anything. At all. It's in our procedures, you can't approach FD customers for sales reasons.

Their account opening process takes ages to complete. Have been waiting to hear from them since putting an application through on 13th March, till date, no words from First Direct.

Have called them on their freephone 0800242424 number a few times only to get told, that someone will call you back sometime this week,(last week). It's not all that its cracked to be, but worth it in the end I believe.

Will stick with it until I hear from them as I applied through cashback.co.uk with the expectation of getting £100 from First Direct and potential £40 from cashback.co.uk.Their tiresome and cumbersome account opening process is too slow and off putting though.

Some good news - I'm reviewing my accounts and by the look of it FD seems a good bet - can anyone shed some light on what mortgage products FD does and what the LTV rates and fees are like for re-mortgaging?

But Staffie1 said that she felt fd cst's wanted to get the phone call over quickly so they can flog you something. I have never had that problem. I wasn't referring to HSBC
