    Happy Solstice, all.

Just checking in quickly - I'm supposed to be checking planning applications, on behalf of CAMRA, to see if we're going to lose any more community pubs in this area.;)

Elderflower wine is merrily bubbling away, and I have to make 20 lb of strawberry jam later on, as we went to a pick-your-own place yesterday. Got some strawberry ice cream churning away as well, and we've got fresh strawberries for tea today.

Hope you're all having a good weekend - it's a mite chilly here, but at least it's dry.

kass home made steak pie yummy. sensible person to ask for the chilli, would have been a great shame to have it wasted no matter what, even more so when your skint and it will save you some pennies or some worry about how to produce pennies for food. best its nice too. have a nice nap.

i do wish you lived nearer me, home made strawb jam is scrumptious but its another thing im far too lazy and impatient to make.

solstice means winter will be setting in again soon :(
  • pcl I'm afraid I'm a bit of a fresh air fiend and bedroom window HAS to be open every night no matter what the season or I can't sleep. I have a cozy snuggly duvet which means I am warm in bed even if the bedroom itself is cold.

bz Nice precis! And the last couple of days I have been doing not a lot in the house, just pottering, but still seeing results which is good. Trouble with that is I may have to get the hoover out soon which is not nearly so much fun.

It's soooo hot here today, but living room is lovely and cool. You'll be glad of the shorter hair if it's a hot summer pcl.
Love to all and catch up later.

On the skint front.............. I went to my friends daughter's - although she's like my daughter/niece- engagement party on Friday then went to help them clean up Saturday morning. There was a massive pot of chilli and some curry left that they were just gonna throw away! I felt like a bit of a dosser but I asked them if I could have it and I've put it in those silver trays in the freezer and bought some spuds. We're gonna be living off baked potatoes with chilli for the next few days :o:D

I try so hard not to throw food away - it's such a shameful waste. Good for you for asking for it!
Every so often I have hat I call Bitsy Salad which uses up all the odds and ends that are lurking in the fridge - it's normally gorgeous too. Failing that, there's the stock pot or soup.

I haven't made steak pie in an age - it seems a bit of a waste when it's just me, but I suppose I could make small ones and freeze em. I am a major fan of batch cooking and freezing things - so economical and it'll be a blast having space to do it. Just need to find motivation now

Takes me about 20 mins to get to nearest Asda, which is far cheaper than Sainsburys which is 5 mins away. Will do the trip every month or so and stock up on cheap meat etc. Not bad quality stuff either - am quite impressed.

    Happy Solstice!

Lol @ pcl, how very negative

I hate waste too anyway. That's why I'm so fat I think! :D

I'm so glad I got the foil tray things. When we had our tea last night there was a bit of pie left along with mash and veg so I shoved that in a tray and that will do for my lunch tomorrow. Ooooh I'm so chuffed with myself, I'm being very mse!!!

LW, I demand you tell me how to make strawberry ice cream!!!

Careful, bitsy salad? :rotfl: Bet it's nice actually. Me and my sister used to have what we called corned beef mush. We discovered it whilst trying to use up store cupboard stuff. Corned beef, beans, tinned new potatoes and tomatoes with a dash of worcestershire sauce. A big bowl of that is really filling and cheap and tasty. Can't eat corned beef anymore though which has made me really mad cos I loved mush. I won't tell you why cos the last person I told hasn't forgiven me for ruining corned beef for them, especially as their fave was corned beef pie :D

Hello all :) sorry I havent been in for ages but I have been doing extra hours at work which I'm enjoying as it actually makes me feel better in the long run even though I'm tired. When I'm at home I feel worse laid about not doing anything

I also, after hearing so much about the Twilight series ,decided to borrow them from a friend and am now on the last book, they are brilliant :rotfl:it's gotten me right back into reading [and i want to be bitten ]

auntie axe I hope you have settled in well :)

sue enjoy your holiday and I hope everything goes smoothly for your Dad :)

LW home made strawberry jam with fresh warm bread is just heaven :)

There was so much to read I've forgotten it all

I hope everyone is doing ok and managing their aches and pain and a social life as well xx

Thank you to everyone who posts comps xxx
  • raeh How lovely to see you again. I was hoping that you were OK and maybe just too busy winning competitions *g*

Another fave dish of mine is Tuna Muck *g*. Tinned tuna, toms, garlic, onions and owt else you fancy as a pasta sauce. Secret to make it nice is a spoonfull of sugar added to take away the bitterness if you use tinned toms
Lovely served with garlic bread on the side.
