I had a call today from some claims company offering to help me claim back my bank charges (never had any) but find this very suspicious as it was on my mobile number which only 7 people have & have ever had. That's the second unsolicited claim contact in a week & untill I started persuing my PPI reclaim I have never been contacted by any companies like this. How are these people getting our details!

I think they just try millions of phone number combinations until they get lucky. I have had phone calls from claims companies too saying I have been mis sold PPI on a loan - but I have never taken out a loan lol

    Hi,

I have received a letter from HFC bank. They want to pay me approx 5061 pounds.

First a bit of the back story...

I sent them the first letter. I had two loans. They didnt acknowledge the second account in their first letter. In the very second letter they say they will me the above amount which also includes 8% interest!!!!

    So result!!!

But wait theres more...I told them that i thought that i had paid twice for (ppi). But they refute this and tell me this is critical cover which i took out.

So what do I do? Do I accept what they are offering or should i tempt fate and tell them that i think their pushy salesperson kind of pressured me into buying the critical insurance?

Just for reference please see my other posts for further info! I hope some one can help advise me further!

    Power to the people! :))
  • Hi all

Today i too had a call(on my mobile) from a company offering to calculate and reclaim two lots of ppi from Halifax and UCB Homeloans.
As these are both companies i have dealt with in the past i was a bit taken aback.
When pressed the came up with the right sort of amounts and the right sort of times (although i have no paperwork going back this far )
I continued the conversation and got a phone number from them and was told that both companies had given them the imformation to enable me to claim the amounts back through them for a fee of £199.00 (only if succesfull).
    Confused or what........

Any way how can i find out about any previous loans i have had from these or any other companies.....i also think i had an earlier Egg loan can i go for this as well ?

Also im still waiting for Egg to do its sums but this could mean i go after more misold ppi will this have any adverse effects on my credit rating and could it effect my current halifax mortgage if i go after a previous halifax loan ??

    Sorry long post :o

    Hello there

I would personally do this yourself if you can, where you get to keep all your money if successful, its easy, with just paying for maybe a stamp or 2.

Many on here have received these calls, and they collect your data from records from when you taken out loans in the past and so on, it comes up in front of them etc.

If you no paperwork a Subject access request (SAR) will cost you a £10 postal order or cheque payment, to request for everything they hold on you, they have 40 days to comply, as soon as you receive the info back, look through, and if you see you have been mis sold ppi for any reason then go for it.

For the SAR template letter here

Then the guidelines of reclaiming PPI on the link below, with useful info, a checklist of mis selling reasons and reclaim template letters, just post up if you require help with this when your ready and good luck.;)

Have you had a ruling from an adjudicator yet? if you have I can't see why they are doing this. Why would you take a lower amount if you where fairly confident FOS would rule in your favor and make Ocean pay the correct amount as set out in FOS guide lines. Sounds like they are hoping you need the money and will take a lower amount.

Yes FOS ruled in my favour and they also awarded me £200 compensation for distress caused. I too think they are offering a lower amount but it seems there is something going on with Ocean as all claims sort of went on hold while the ombudsman was in talks with them. The adjudicator wasn't allowed to chase Ocean after deadline dates but because Ocean responded to my case they can talk to them. Very confusing i know but I have some idea of the figure they owe me so won't be accepting a silly offer from them.

Might do what the previous person said and ring swithcboard and get them to e-mail if nothing in post today. At least I will know then ready for responding.

I agree, very confusing. My complaints have not yet got to an adjudicator so I'm hoping Ocean and The FOS have or can come to some sort of agreement on how to settle complaints. I don't know though as it sounds like Ocean are insisting the FOS send you this offer even though it does not fall inline with FOS guides. Fingers crossed that the offer is not far off what you think you should get.
