i wrote to A&L about 2-3 weeks ago, about a loan i took out with them in November 2006. i received 2 letters, saying it was being looked into, and would be dealt with within 4 weeks etc. About a week later, i received what looked like a standard "we may have made a mistake with PPI" letter, and saying if i have already written in, to just wait for a reply. (surely this letter should have come before?!)
I just wondered if any one here had had success with A&L, how long it took etc? and whether you can choose to have a cheque or paid off your loan?
Many thanks,
Katkins :-)0 -

Hi there Katkins.;)
There are many here who have had and still have complaints in regards of A&L.
Also try checking out on the success thread.;)
If the 8 weeks have passed, as this is ample time for them to sort this out for you, you can if you want to move your complaint on to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS), you can wait longer for a response from A&L if you want to.
Good luck with this and please keep us posted. XThe one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Hi, wrote two letters to black horse using templates for mis selling ppi. one is a personal loan (settled early) the other was car finance through direct cars (also settled early). received replies from both first one for the car finance saying been forwarded to direct cars because it was sold by them for them to investigate. second one for personal loan which was done over telephone saying that we took a demands and needs questionaire and based on hubbys answers they recommended life accident and sickness and involuntary unemployment cover. also we were provided with a summary of cover in a leaflet that confirmed cover was optional and that we had 30 days to cancel. also now that the agreement is settled and we had the benefit of the cover for the period of our agreement no refund will be made . so tough basically! any advice on what to do next i would be really grateful for! hubby doesnt recall having the conversation about ppi and we still feel we were mis-sold. thanks in advance...0

I rang them the other day and I must be honest I did not get much positive response. They could not say when Picture would be declared in default and would not give any timescale! Same old thing again!
However I did ask if the whole thing would be settled in time for THIS Christmas!! (stressing Christmas 2009!) and they assured me it would be sorted by then!
I know its not much consolation but at least there is a glimmer of light somewhere in that long tunnel!!!
GUMBI If you are out there have you heard anything from your inside source!
Gumbi here....
Nothing new I'm afraid, My contact seems tio have gone to ground. Can't say I blame him to be honest!
I have real hard time compaining about the FSCS as they are really overworked and companies like Picture are quire simply dumping their problems on them and the FOS.
On a positive note I hear that the FOS default position on Single Premium PPI is basically refund the lot so I doubt if the FSCS will be much different. I think we're all going have to take a collective deep breath, clentch our teeth, grin and bear it until the legal team at the FSCS do their thing.
I think we have enough ears on the ground between us to know when things gave moved on but I'll keep trying at my end.
Let's spare a thought for those that have already lost their homes because of this scandle! Dialysis in particular!!0 -

Hi there
Was this the final response?
If not write back and ask them to reconsider as you strongly still believe you were mis sold this product despite the summary cover leaflet.
You do have your reasons, so keep at them until they confirm the final decision.
If this was the final response then go to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) to ask them if they can investigate.;)
You received the standard response, so please do not let that put you off, we all receive them.
FOS here:
