  • Hi everyone, I'm VERY new to all this (not even sure I'm posting in the right place!) and just can't work out if I have a case or not. I applied for a Capital One credit card in October 2004 and applied online. I still have the card and have noticed that there is a PPI charge on the statements. I have a copy of the T&Cs from the correct time which state that the PPI is optional but as I applied online I don't have a copy of the document I signed. I do have a copy of the Credit Agreement which was the copy I was advised to keep but is this the same as what I would have signed? There is nowhere to sign on my copy and nowhere to opt in or out of PPI. In the section about PPI it states they will supply details of PPI which I should read and understand. There isn't anything seperate to fill in to apply for the PPI and I don't have a full policy document to tell me about it.
Does anyone know if Capital One used pre-checked boxes when you applied online?
Any advice on whether I should just give up now? It all seems so complicated and I haven't a clue whether I should continue or not. I still have the card, the PPI is still running, I have an outstanding balance which is slowly being paid off and I just don't know what to do next.
Any advice would be very, very welcome.
  • Hi Everyone,

New member to the forum and like many, i hoping for some advice reagarding an old Credit card. Had an Egg card from sometime in 2002 until 2007 and had PPI on it, dont remember having the option as i normally would not have taken out PPI. Card is no longer active and cant find anything related to it i.e. old statements, even the credit card number i dont have. Is there anyway to get this info from Egg or do I just leave it? Any advise would be much appreciated.

You could ring and ask Egg,give as much info as you can and see if they can find your account.

Another way,is to get your credit file, this will show the egg account, not sure if it will have the whole card number, but it will have part of it and this may help you.

You can have a free trial of your credit report, just remember to cancel this before your trial ends.

Others on here have claims for credit cards, they will have more info for you when they come on.

Hi alexandra i would'nt give up first thing to do is to get a copy of your original agreement and it's a little more complicated being done online. Some banks used the pre-ticked boxes again you would have to get a copy of your agreement, firstly i'd try the old fashioned approach, call them it sounds daunting but some staff members will just give you the info some won't, as you have an active account they should upon request give you a copy other than that send a consumer credit agreement request which will cost you £1.00 and i believe the bank has 12 days to comply i'd try these routes first i'd normally recommend going into the bank bit it'll be no good for you unless you live near chester.

  • Hi All,

another new user, just joined today.:hello:

Ive had a number of credit cards over the last 10yrs with balances of up to £5k that have been paid of in dribs & drabs, eventually cleared, then another 1-2k, or 3-4k and same again. I have (only just) written to 4 card companies and so far have had one response from Barclaycard.

I have no idea whether I had PPI with B-card and they have sent what appears to be a copy of the original agreement from circa 2001. It has no mention of PPI or ASU or any of the things Emperor Martin has said to look for in the small print. I've read it through about 5 times now (zzzzzzzzz)

However with all the jargon etc I thought I'd call them and straight ask. I mean, they can't lie to me can they...??? (famous last words)One overseas call centre later, I was told straight 'No' - I have not and have never had payment PPI.

Question is, do I believe them and leave it there or do I go after them regardless and see what drops? I have no idea whether I have had PPI but if so I was unaware (and obviously still am!). Whats the worst that can happen?

On other cards I know of at least one that mis-sold PPI to me (Post Office Credit Card), but I was kinda hoping I had PPI on Barclaycard as I've had the card so long and made lots of payments on it, so I'd be quids in! :rotfl:

Any advice appreciated. Times are tough!

Hi sorry chances are that if it's not detailed on your agreement you did'nt have it, but and this is the big but sometimes the banks have been known to add the ppi later on without your knowledge, i've been told by banks i did'nt have ppi on a loan when i know i did and i've went on to claim it back, your call really.
  • amersall wrote: »
Hi there, if you have statements that show you paid ppi before 2001 then you can send copies of these and ask them to reconsider.
Your agreement may be of no use to you as ppi on a card is usually put on when you telephone to activate the card, you are lucky they are going back 10 years, some only go back 6 without proof.

Thanks for your advice amersall. I shall have one last search!
  • Hi Guys,
After some advice, have had a rejection from cap 1, have emailed their CEO 2 weeks ago and had no response, shall I take this to FOS now or send another one?

    Thanks in advance
IF HIND SIGHT WAS FORESIGHT WOULD I STILL NEED TO GO TO THE OPTICIANS???
