Wow. This thread is Long! So apologies for repeating this question...
I took out a personal loan in 2006 over the internet and it has PPI included. I know that I wouldnt have taken this out through choice because I was still living at home and my parents would have taken over the repayments if anything were to happen.
However I was googling the correct address to send my complaint off and the A&L website says that it is only compensating people that got their loan over the telephone. Has anyone else had success is claiming back even if they did it all online? I know that some sites had the tick box already ticked and you were meant to untick which has now deemed to be unfair...I seriously cant remember ever agreeing to this insurance and definitely wouldnt have taken it out through choice!
Any help would be much appreciated!0 -
Hi
I have to let you know that MBNA were so quick replying to my claim for PPI back and within 28 days they sent a letter stating they will be refunding over £1000.00 back to me, marvellous.
I have a La Redoute catalogue and am paying for "total cover insurance". I just wondered can I also claim this back because it seems pretty useless to me0 -

Complaints regarding A&L loans are now being looked after by Santander so you need to contact them.
A unsecured personal loan from A&L taken out online in 2006 would be a front loaded single premium policy where the insurance principle is added to the loan and you paid interest on the whole lot. This was bad practice and the FOS take a very dim view of it.This in itself is a strong reason for complaint which greatly strengthens your position. They were in effect selling you a loan within a loan, protecting you from debt by putting you in more debt. The whole product was weighted unduly heavily in favour of the lender.
Other areas for complaint could be that you had good sickness benefit at work, that you were self employed on low hours or that you had previous medical conditions which would have invalidated the policy.
Don't let the fact that you applied online put you off, with single premium i don't believe it makes any difference. The complaint is that the product itself was inherently bad value for the customer.
I actually looked up the old A&L website from 2006 on the wayback machine and they were certainly actively selling it online. They used such emotive phrases as "peace of mind" and went so far as to say PPI "makes perfect sense" alongside quotes from customers who were singing the praises of this product.
You can make a complaint via email to the Santander complaints department on their website including your account number.Alternatively you can print off the questionaire template on MSE and send it to Santanders PPI complaints dept by recorded delivery.
Hope that helps.0 -
barclays wrote to me regarding my credit card ppi, they said they cant continue with my claim because they cant find my ppi agreement. I have all my old statements so im going to copy some and sebd them in and ask them to reopen is that the thing to do?
Also while i was looking through these statements i noticed that i was paying ppi of between £30 and £50 for a few years and then this seemed to stop about 2007 ish and from then there apears to be a flat fee called card protector of £3.95, can anyone throw any light onto this for me?0 -
Have to say the guys answering the questions on here are phenomonal! So much help its unreal!
So my next set of questions for you... firstly with regards to capital one, I was charged PPI, I know this without doubt for at least 6 years on a credit card. They have photocopied the paperwork and sent me it, I have read through it and I havnt ticked a box or signed anything with regards to having ppi but I definitely had it on the account the only mention of this is within the long list of Ts&Cs(number 12 out of 24 - 6 pages long) I sent capital one a letter last week as they hadnt responded within 12 days to my original request, stating if they dont respond within 21 days I will take this matter further. My question is basically, what would be my next step? Now I have received the documentation (they crossed in the post, it wasnt sent in reply to my second letter)
Also. At the moment I have only gone back to 2005 with my claims but I have read on here that going back further is possible - just how possible? I know I had at least one dodgy loan when I was younger and pretty sure I would have had others with PPI on them but how do I get the information? Do I just ring up HSBC for statements from that time?
Capital one is the most important thing for now though if someone can answer, much appreciated.
{Edit} I just noticed a box for optional insurance which was never ticked nor signed.... what now?0 -

Hi Scrappy, "got a loan over the phone" PFFFF ???
See the list below, if you can answer no to any, take them to task.
It does not matter how it was sold, phone, internet, in a pub, blind man in the street ....... when it comes to the nitty gritty, if you did not know they had added it, IT IS FRAUD, talk them about fraud, think you'll find they will change their minds
*Did YOUR BANK explain the full cost of the PPI when you took out the loan?
*Did you specifically ask YOUR BANK for PPI?
*Did YOUR BANK make clear that PPI was optional?
*Did YOUR BANK ask you about your medical history?
*Did YOUR BANK ask you about any existing payment cover?
*Did you know that YOUR BANK added a PPI policy to your loan?
*Do you think YOUR BANK treated you fairly?
*Did YOUR BANK ask if you have any existing medical conditions?
*Did YOUR BANK ask if you were entitled to sick pay from your employer?
If you answered no to any one of the above you could be owed thousands of pounds
highadmiral is 100% right, if it was front loaded, the FSA do not approve. Stick to your guns and you will win0 -

Hi, as I said earlier, Capital One are well known for adding PPI without your permission. The law calls this FRAUD and lessor people go to prison for FRAUD.
Go get these thieves. This is the man you should email and tell him about the fraud his company committed
RICH FAIRBANK CEO OF CAPITAL ONE. rich.fairbank@capitalone.com
Do not mince your words ...... FRAUD IS A VERY SERIOUS OFFENCE0 -
