Potatobread wrote: »Hi everyone - I'm a newbie and would really appreciate your advice.
I had a credit card with the Halifax a few years ago and happened to still have a statement which mentioned PPI - so I posted off a letter to them asking for compensation. That was about a month ago and I've just received a cheque for about £1k. The cheque is attached to a letter saying 'further to your correspondence we attach settlement'.
I also received a statement for the credit card (which I thought had been long closed) which had been credited with: Premium refund, rebate refund and APR refund, totalling the same as the cheque.
First of all, it seems they've paid me twice if they've credited the card and sent me a cheque. I don't intend to defraud the Halifax.
It all seemed a bit easy - one letter and they send me a cheque? I did have problems with the Halifax a few years ago and recieved compensation for their mistakes in relation to a mortgage so they may have seen that my records show I don't let up if I'm in the right.
I'm not sure what I'm owed in total as I've binned most of the statements ages ago. The payment doesn't seem to include any compensation - just refunds.
Should I go back to them and ask for more, or would I be pushing my luck? The payment is quite tempting given it's Christmas!
Many thanks folks!!
The redress is a refund of ppi and 8%,they dont give compensation as they have given you full redress.0 -

I dont know if I am on the correct Thread or even Panel
I am trying to help a Neighbour/Friend to do with his O/D and PPI and badly need help in advising him - I believe Barclays is having him over again and are trying to " bury the evidence " by paying out on the PPI 3 1/2 years after made Redundant he didnt understand what the £8 was and thought it was O/D Charge.
I dont know how to do a quote to bring over what Barclays have offered face to face. ( I wasnt there to stop it ) I will have a go at quotes but might not get it right. What I think they are doing is Telling him to Claim on the PPI which he probably should have done when he was Redundant 1st Jul 08 but he will still be paying Interest and PPI = Total £22.61 so not £100 back only £77.40 p.month = £928.80 only over 12 months Not £1,200 - he has paid £8 PPI for 42 months at least since Lost Job so £336 would not have been paid if had claimed in Jul 08 it his money anyway.
Hallaluia I didnt make much of a mess of it but the please have a look at my other Thread to get the whole story.
I started a Thread in Wanna be Debt Free Titled Pros and Cons of O/D versus Loans that is where I first landed on this Forum and have been helped by a couple of people but I now believe that this is where I can get him more experienced help for him and to confirm that I am right in going for Reclaiming his PPI. :xmassign:

hi
can anyone tell me
im doing a ppi on behalf of sister.
she has 8 loans which she took out but she lost the papers.
on the first template letter to request copies of agreements.
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/redir/3b580615
Do I just write down all the account numbers one after each other and ask for copies of all the 8 loan agreements in one go on the same letter?
also, do you have to pay £8 to cover all 8 loan agreements or will £1 cover all of them?
im going to do them all in one go
thanks0 -
Bumpety Bump
Please see my post No. 25417 and my Thread referred to in it about helping my Neighbour
I just need advice as to whether I am correct in believing Barclays are trying to remove the evidence of them not paying out when made Redundant on a PPI that he didnt know he had on the O/D ,and I want to Claim Back whole PPI for a start and Interest Charges that have caused Hardship on JSA - he is 50 so not much chance getting a Job - but out every day looking for Manual Work - not much education so was easy meat for Barclays
Please help me to advise him I will be going to Bank with him Wed or Thurs.0 -
Hi, Cappo has had a lot of problems with Capital One AND YES the FOS could help you BUT ...... If you did not tick the box, and they say you agreed to it by phone, request a transcript of the conversation to prove you agreed, no transcript, they cannot prove what they said and therefore you can basically claim 100% from the list below.
Take no notice of the "final response" rubbish, its only final when they repay your money. Capital One are well known for their staff adding PPI's without permission and worse of all, Capital One sold fraudulent policies designed never to pay out. So, hit their CEO WITH A CHARGE OF FRAUD he already knows that Capital One are a fruadulent bank
His name is Rich Fairbank rich.fairbank@capitalone.com AND YOU CAN HEAD YOUR EMAIL "FRAUD COMPLAINT"
*Did YOUR BANK explain the full cost of the PPI when you took out the loan?
*Did you specifically ask YOUR BANK for PPI?
*Did YOUR BANK make clear that PPI was optional?
*Did YOUR BANK ask you about your medical history?
*Did YOUR BANK ask you about any existing payment cover?
*Did you know that YOUR BANK added a PPI policy to your loan?
*Do you think YOUR BANK treated you fairly?
*Did YOUR BANK ask if you have any existing medical conditions?
*Did YOUR BANK ask if you were entitled to sick pay from your employer?
If you answered no to any one of the above you could be owed thousands of pounds
Well, as the christmas spirit subsides and all I have left of it is a major hangover, I thought now would be a good time to email the Cap one CEO. I have stated that they have no evidence that supports their claim that I am eligible to claim on the policy in fact i can prove the opposite I also stated that i will be looking at charging them with fraud if I don't get a proper lawful response, so now I feel so much better, I'll sit and wait...........Happy New Year!! :rotfl:IF HIND SIGHT WAS FORESIGHT WOULD I STILL NEED TO GO TO THE OPTICIANS???0 -
Update on my post No. 25417 on previous page - I have spoken to my Friend/Neighbour Tues afternoon to find out exactly how this PPI was aquired - He told me that Barclays Sales would keep phoning him 2/3 times a week to flog Insurance and this was usually about 8pm when he had been working Heavy Manual Work and just wanted food and rest after work and eventially he caved in and agreed over the phone this was about 6 months before he was made Redundant end of June 2008 - at the time he had 2 loans with Brit Gas and a Provident of £200 + £260 interest that were all being paid by D/Ds in an O/D
Barclays have sent him the Form and Leaflet how to Claim on this PPI - when I looked at the Form I saw that the PPI was only for Sickness, Accident and Hospitalisation with no mention of Redundancy.
This is definately mis-sold as the Firm he was working for did pay sick pay which My Friend said but the Salesman said it was a good idea to have it and he finally agreed over the phone but didnt sign anything.
When he was made Redundant 6 months later he cancelled all D/D and thought that the PPI was included - later when he saw the £8 a month he believed that as he had cancelled everything coming out in order to pay off Loans Manually he thought that this was just something connected to the O/D as well as the Interest .
Now Barclays are wanting him to claim on the PPI for sickness which he isnt because I think that they are trying to bury the Evidence of mis-sold because I want him to Reclaim the whole PPI which would be approx 48 months at £8 +8% = £8.64 x 48 = £414.72 and I want to try for the Interest charges with PPI that keep putting him £1 to £3 over O/D limit as he is on JSA. He has very limited education so was very vunerable and didnt understand Statements
I need help to confirm or correct if I am advising him of the best Action - I am going to the Bank with him on Thursday to try and Con the Bank out of all Data and copy of PPI agreement which there isnt one (sold over phone at 8pm at night ) If I have to do a proper SAR can we take it into his Local Branch and get a Receipt instead of Recorded Delivery Mail.
Thanks for any advice.0 -

Look here for reasons for mis sell
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#step2
When you go into the bank, let them know you are making a claim for mis sell and want the redress to include the interest,do the same with the charges too (you may not get these, but you can try, you never know, you may be lucky)
Good luck.0
