PPI Reclaiming Discussion part 4

HI, I need some advise I contacted my bank (Natwest) and tried to claim my PPI back but they advised me that I agreed to taking it out, they sent me my paperwork with the PPI box ticked, but nothing next to it saying it was optional etc. To my memory I remember them saying about it but cant remember them saying anything about it being optional and that I didn't really need it. I was only 18 when I took the loan out and didn't fully understand the reason for PPI. Should I go back to them or leave it now?

Good afternoon
I started my PPI reclamation campaign on 3 October, and duly called and completed FOS forms as advised. Admittedly, the detailed committed was not entirely completed (usually short of account numbers), but dealt with nice and calmly:
Black Horse Finance (loan)
Santander (Abbey Mortgage)
MBNA (CC)
Halifax (CC, loan & mortgage)
GE Capital (FNB, Loan)
Barclaycard (Morgan Stanley & Goldfish CC)
Since, there has been a steady trickle of written replies
Hailfax - Thank you, we're looking in to it
Santander - We cannot find any records
Black Horse - We cannot find any records
MBNA - Thank you we're looking in to it.
I called Black Horse at 0900 this morning asking if they would check... I got a set of programmed responses, mostly focussed on 'no records older than 6 years, for data protection reasons', a very negative call.
I was so irritated that I decided to take the day off work (I work for my self) to think about my next moves, as I'm starting to believe that most responses will be similar.
I had a flashof inspiration, and remembered stashing a fist full of old records (some of them unopened) in a brief case about 8 years ago, and once I remembered where the case was (burried under a mountain of hoarded items in my shed) I set about breaking in to it with a hammer, to reveal some useful evidence.
Armed with new info I have called Black Horse and they've can now I.D. me!
Found a PPI agreement number for my Abbey Mortage (circa 2000), and called them.
I have CC statements for Goldfish and Morgan Stanley. I believe they are both owned by Barclaycard. Spent 30 minutes being transferred to just about everyone at Barclaycard, and gave up. Have raised a FOS for each, and wonder whether to send them out to Barclaycard or has anyone got any other advice?
My thanks go out to the awkward young Lady at Black Horse, without her crap attitude I'd not been as reactive!!
Finally, I've come across paperwork relating to a personal loan for a kitchen I purchased in 1989. The deal was painfull, supplied (including finance) by a local company who later went under. An account that I defaulted on and ended up with a CCJ. Finally settled in about 1998. The loan was with First National Bank, who later become GE. I have the original sales agreement, detailing payment insurance.
Any advice?
Best regards

OK, Was this done face to face with a manager. Did they explain how the PPI worked and the terms and conditions, Did they explain what you were NOT covered on, Do you have the PPI policy.
Were you told it was optional, who actually ticked the box, you or the staff member0 -
I have received my SAR eventually from Santander, i have found a store card account opened in 1990, which had PPI on. According to their documentation quote
January 1999 'PPI cancelled-customer never requested or wanted policy charges in last 30 days refunded £12'
This account continued until March 2005,when i paid it off in full.
Is it too late to claim this back please (Looking back I can't believe how many times I was in arrears with this account and the PPI must account for some of these)
Thanks Lisa0 -
Hi sunny this is what the fos have did with me they've just contacted LTSB and asked them to investigate mine as well, i think it's routine, thats the way they sometimes start a complaint, it'll get sorted lovely.
Dear All
Thought I would update you because lots of us are trying to claim back mis-sold PPI on storecards, catalogues etc.
I have approached Grattan with regard to this who said it was not their responsibility. So asked FOS what to do. They gave me the underwriters name and address and forwarded my complaint to them. Many weeks went by, and I received two holding letters from the underwriters, Assurant Solutions. This weekend I received their final response letter stating that they are not responsible for the mis-selling of the insurance, and have no record of me whatsoever because as I had never claimed against the insurance, therefore they would not have any of my details. They insist my complaint is against Freeman and Grattan Holdings (which I agree with) and said I was to approach them and follow their complaints procedure.
So I have been round the houses with the company, FOS and underwriters. I have now written back to FOS asking for their advice and will keep you all posted.
I am also claiming against underwriters for a Debenhams card which had PPI without my knowledge, as GE Capital are no longer, Santander not interested, FLA waste of time, and FOS suggest the Underwriter route. So another one - will keep you posted.
I have had success with Creation Finance for a Wallis Card. I was not working when I took out this card many years ago and PPI was automatically added. Creation Finance did not want to know and said that as long as I fitted their criteria etc., etc., I was eligible, and they had sent details etc., However one of their criterias was that you had to be in employment - which I wasn't. I wrote back thanking them for confirmation that indeed I shoudl never have had PPI added to my account and they asked for proof. I therefore applied to National Insurance offices and they sent me the proof required. All in all this has taken almost 6 months to complete. How they hated sending me that settlement cheque - even though not sure it is enough, and have just written and asked them for a breakdown of their figures, because I am sure they would not expect me to accept a final settlement figure without giving me the full details!!! Awaiting their response. Really rude letter from them also referring to my accusation........... in my reply letter asking for the breakdown figures, I have pointed out that they accept responsibility for the mis-selling of this insurance by sending me a settlement cheque - live with it!!
Not sure how successful we are going to be with the underwriters route, fingers crossed0 -

Hi thanks for your reply - why has it gone to FOS is Creation paid up - was it only part payment? Because that it what I am querying?0 -

I took out a wallis card in 2001 with Creation, this was taken over to Santander from 2004 to present, so I've been paid out until 2004, so took it to FOS for 2004 to present.

Hi. Not a newbie but not been posting for a while.
I put a claim in with Halifax (after trying for 2 days to find out who Beneficial/Marbles were taken over by) on 29/6/11.
In July I received a letter from Halifax stating they could find no record of my account. Needless to say I copied several statements and sent them with a covering letter. On July 26th I contacted Halifax and asked whether my account details had been located and was assured they had and that my claim date would be from the 29/6/11.
By my reckoning this is tomorrow and I thought I would contact them today and ask for an update.
The customer service person looked at my notes and said a letter had been sent out on 30/9/11 which I have not received. She said she was unable to re-send the letter but would contact the sender and ask them to contact me either by phone or letter.
When I asked what would have happened if I had not contacted them today she apologised but this was 3 weeks ago.
I know I was miss sold PPI as I am a nurse in NHS and took the card out as it was supposed to be special rates with the RCN Visa Card. I paid it off in full in 2009 after having it for over 10 years.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what I do now as I don't want to go to the FOS and how long do I leave it to follow up with another phone call.0 -
Tried to add that reason for miss selling was that i did not need the cover as I already get benefits within the NHS and it wasn't optional to have PPI when I took the card out.0
