Are FOS actually allowed to intervene with Insurers based in GIB? Have they said they can? I thought that most companies based in GIB are untouchable?

    Hi Marshalka,
FOS offered to write to them staright away when I phoned to ask for advice, they even located the address because I knew nothing about Lighthouse...had never heard of them and they aren't mentioned anywhere on my agreement with GE Capital Woodchester. FOS knew straight away wo they were so I assume they must have had dealings with them before.

    Hi Susan ED,
Must have just missed you last night! On reading your post today I suddenlt thought that the address in Chiswick sounded familiar....sure enough it's exactly the same address that Santander gave me for GENWORTH, who they said was the insurance company. When you ring the number for them (0870 4004801) a recorded message states "Welcome to GE Money" - so in fact it is GE Capital's own company, or a branch of it at the very least! The FOS have now written to Lighthouse, who apparently were the underwriters, in Gibraltar. Fingers crossed!

Yes good luck. GE Captal - a bank by many names, and all of them BAD!!!!;)

Hello, so much info on here. Apologies if this is answered elsewhere but would appreciate your opinions for my next steps.

I'm thinking of trying to reclaim ppi from loan i got April 2008 at my own branch of HBoS. I've read through the reclaim guide but am still feeling a bit unsure about whether it was missold.

I'd been having difficulty getting a loan to consolidate other debts(another story for another time ) and when offered said i'd go for the ppi to aid my application. I dont remember them dissuading me too strongly otherwise. I also work for the NHS so have good sick pay terms that were not explored by the bank. After completing the forms another bank operative had me go through some check box stuff apparently double checking what their colleague had done with me. The finer points are a bit hazy now but think it may have included insurance stuff.

Makes me wonder if they were pre-empting this sort of claim potential. I'm also wondering if an unsuccessful claim can end up prejudicing you in the future.

    Thanks.

    Hi and welcome.

I don't suppose they actually verbally went through the policy details with you, or you would have had the opportunity to have been given the option of taking out the PPI, and if you were already protected, could you see the point in having another?

Its up to you of course, as some say they will still pay out even if you did have adequate cover elsewhere, but I am not certain if they actually would or not.

I would check your policy details on this account, if you do not have these - then they should supply these to you free on request.

I would check Martin's link below for more info, and the checklist as there are many reasons for being mis sold.

To make a reclaim, all you do is complete the FOS questionnaire, this is in replacement of the first template reclaming letter, and issued by the financial ombudsman service (FOS).
Send to whoever set up and sold you the policy.

Keep a copy in case you need to refer to it at some point.

They have 8 weeks in full to respond, and they may write back to ask for more time - which is okay, just as long as you know where you are.

Hope this gives you more idea.;)

They cannot hold anything against you in the future either, your only rightfully reclaiming what is rightfully yours, and they have to treat you fairly, they also have a lenders code to follow to do so.

    Hi there

So this is the first stage then?

Or do you mean its already been with the adjudicator, but they are passing it on to the ombudsman for consideration.

    Sorry, just making sure.

This can vary, and difficult to give a timescale but if all goes well with the adjudicator and the other party you can say more or less up to 8 weeks once its with the adjudicator, if the other party ignore and does not agree with the adjudicators decision then its then moved on to the ombudsman.

It could take approx 18 months overall but then some have been waiting longer and less than that.

If you in any financial hardship, let them know and request for fast tracking.

Hope you hear soon though with a positive result, good luck.;)
Hi i sent this to fos months ago but keep getting letters saying its waiting to be passed to an adjudicator just wondering how long this takes thanks

  • HI all,
If there is ANY misunderstanding or rudeness from my earlier blogs, I do apologise. My temper and frustrations get the better of me and I just want to let off steam.
One thing, regarding my PPI complaint with Egg. I have just wrote a truthful but understandable letter to the CEO Ms Natalie Ceeney at the FOS to see if she can help and move things along.
I am not getting anywhere fast as it is. Egg did lie to me saying on 16/8/2010 that someone had contacted me directly and had resolved my queries. But in fact, NO HAD CONTACTED ME DIRECTLY.
They also said earlier to the FOS that I got a PPI refund in October 2009 of £ 2281.97, but in fact I got £ 2020.01.
Lies, lies and more lies. This can't go on.
I am sorry that this is going on in circles with this complaint of mine, but I am letting off steam. I am frustrated and very angry.
Tnaks for all the help so far and as usual giving me and all of us good advice.

Again, I will let you know what the outcome is on all accounts.
