5% off 1st class stamps

What's the deal?
Superdrug is offering 5% off first class stamps in stores (not online) until 14 February. While it's often just as quick and cheaper to buy second class, if you use first class often anyway, stock up while this offer's on (you can buy up to 72 stamps in one transaction).
What they'll cost at Superdrug:
- Book of 4 First Class for large letters: £1.98 (Normal price: £2.08)
- Book of 6 First Class: £2.05 (Normal price: £2.16)
- Book of 12 First Class: £4.10 (Normal price: £4.32)
Stamps are inflation proof, so stock up
Provided the stamps say "1st" rather than having a cost on them (e.g. 36p) then even when stamp prices go up, they're still useable as first class stamps, making them inflation proof! Thus there isn't a problem stocking up on them when you can get them.
Stamp prices are due to rise in April (see Royal Mail's press release on Price Rises).
- 1st class - from 36p to 39p
- 2nd class - from 27p to 30p
So if you use first class stamps often it's worth stocking up using this offer.
Many thanks to MoneySaver flutterbyuk25 for the top spot! This post has been inserted into the top of the discussion to provide a fully researched and written explanation.

Thanks... I'll get a load before the offer finishes (and the prices go up in a few weeks).TOP MONEYSAVING TIP
Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -
There are online stamp dealers who regularly sell stamps cheaper than this, often about 10% discount I think. I buy them for posting out my ebay stuff and it's well worth it. Just do a google search for 'discount stamps' and you will see them.0

From what I can tell alot of the discount postage stamp shops sell stamps to the value of 1st class ie 36p, so when the price increases you'll need to get make up value stamps to the new price for them to be valid!!0

well worth buying 1st class if you are looking for work too , I know at least two employers( personally)who admit to discarding any applications with 2nd class stamps as a way of whitling down the applicants without having to even open the envelopes.I am journeying to a debt-free life.
Our estimated debt-free date is January 2040. I'm on a mission to bring that date closer!

I think thats disgusting....people who are savvy enough to save money on things like postage stamps show characteristics that make them employable. The amount of time people take to fill in application forms properly can be hours and hours.....then to discover its been thrown away for putting on a 2nd class stamp..well I`m speechless !! What happened to whitling down by poor spelling and bad grammar ?:mad:0 -
Hi guys!
I just wanted to double check this - I've got some 2nd class stamps left over from Christmas 2007 which say '2nd class' on them not the stamp value. Are these still usuable?? I didn't want to throw them away :-(0 -

Don't throw them away....give me. lol
Just joking, yes, you still can use them to post letter as 2nd class.0 -
Is the 5% off 1st class stamps offer at Superdrug also available for 2nd class stamps?0

I guess it went out with whiTTling! (couldn't resist that);)
Seriously, though, I agree with you.
It brings to mind the theory that employers should really discard 50% of job applications at random, thereby ensuring that they don't employ unlucky people. (Can't remember if I read that in Dilbert or Viz).0
