um - the OP said the cat as in pain CiCi...
It could well be infected, I wold suggst the best person to advise on this would be a vet...
.. or do you have some magical powers and a vetinary qualification to allow you to diagnose and advise over the internet..?
This is why the forum rules state no medical advice should be given on here - if you say its fine and the OP takes your word for it, but it isnt, and gets worse, or dies, do you think thats ok?0 -

They don't need to be sick to see a Vet, i've been treated for broken bones before, but wasn't sick. You haven't seent he Cat, you're not a Vet, you have no idea if it's in pain or not. I imagine it's extremely painful as the OP has said (I think) that it's showing signs of pain, Cats don't generally show they're in pain as they're prey. A Vet can check for infection, give painkillers & antibiotics & make sure it's ok. None of us has seen the state of the Cat, none of us are Vets. I bet even Simon, who IS a Vet could only give general advice without actually seeing the damage.0 -

We cant decide here if the cat is in pain as we are not cats - nor vets.
The lady surely doesnt need lectures but she also needs to know she does in fact have a duty of care to the cat and it is actually now an offence to withhold medical treatment. You really do need to have a pet insured esp a cat (due to the fighting and wandering) or have a back up plan such as savings or a credit card to pay for vet treatment when required0 -
not neccessarily as it just happened recently. a cat is very resistent to infection of that kind becasue claw is designed to come out. that is why declawing cats need to be taken off from the joint. so the claw comes out and can be sore as normal. it will grow back with not much touble.0

And as FC says, a Cat running about etc is so different from one left in a box that's injured. Mine goes out in this weather, at night, sometimes all night BUT it is ALWAYS her choice she's NEVER forced to go out, she can come in at any time & she's got a thick coat & is healthy. A Cat left in a box doesn't get the choice.0

So, are you a vet then CiCi??
Did you read my last post? - this sort of medical advice is very unwise to give over the net, and is banned on here!0 -

Mandy, you are ignorant and stupid. Seriously.
No, the cat wont die, but it is suffering.
If someone knocked several teeth out by punching you (I imagine a few on here would love that) you wont die but would you get medical help?
A vet WILL do something.
He will give an antibiotic injection to fight any infection.
And something to bathe the paw in. Possibly a painkiller too.
I agree with people who say if you cannot take to a vet, should not have a pet.
Most vets will treat now, let you pay later. First things first, get that cat to a vet.0 -
