I phoned O2 Customer Services on Friday, and was told the date for my exchange (St Andrews) is down for LLU on the 28th February 2009.

I changed to O2 due to the fact that my previous ISP i had issues with, rather than due to LLU dates, and after reports of good customer service etc, i signed up.

The only thing, that is annoying, is that at the point of signing up, i was told that i wouldn't be on Access for much more than 6 weeks, as my exchange was being unbundled at the end of October, this was also repeated the following day, when i finished off the "sale" with my MAC.

As i was needing a decent ISP, needed to get away from ISP i was with there and then, the cheaper LLU price would be a bonus, but if i was a customer signing up, thinking i would be on cheaper faster broadband in a matter of weeks, then it must be getting really annoying that the date for unbundling gets put back, time and time again, and in my case, the 28/2 will be nearly 4 months later than the original date that was quoted.

I did read, i think it was in The Times, that the Access product, of £17, that around £13 of that goes to BT wholesale, if that is the case, i would have thought that O2 would be trying to get these exchanges unbundled ASAP.

AFAIK getting them unbundled requires help from BT - and it is BT who are causing the delays - other places have been delayed in the past too :(

That is what i was told, when the date was 1st changed last year, that it was BT that did the work in the exchanges.

I'd email o2 cardwell saying you brought business to o2 in good faith, you have paid over the odds for that good faith based on what the staff @ o2 BB told you

  • I wonder if the unbundling is actually going to happen this time on the 28th?

Considering the dates, can't all be 100% the same day, as in surely work must be getting carried out before the 28th, i wish there was an o2 page that showed the status of exchanges that are done to get LLU, rather than customers having to hastle customer services everytime the date given on Sam Knows comes and goes, to find out if they are about to get the cheaper broadband, or if the LLU date has been changed yet again.
  • I signed up with O2 last year...took months of hassle, but I figured it would be worth it, as they had given me a voucher which would mean once they were added to the exchange I would get free broadband (voucher only lasts for a year, got it last October). I was first told that they were already connected, then that the date had been pushed back to the end of January, and now it's been pushed back *again*.

*Sighs*. Still, I can't complain, I suppose...although it took me over 2 months of hassle to get signed up with O2, I do get a good service at a reduced rate...it's just by their calculations, I shouldn't be paying anything, atm!
  • Phoned o2 today, St Andrews exchange still not gone LLU, no date given this time, starting to become a joke now, thats nearly 6 months since the original date given for unbundling.
  • Last date on Sam Knows was for the 30th June, and this was supposed to be happening, according to another forum, that had the date confirmed by O2/BE.

No word from O2 that the work is happening or happened, and since the date has changed so much, not much confidence now.
  • I too am keeping a keen eye on this. I have tried to get in contact with O2 regarding this but so far no joy. Once it goes live does this mean that I can expect faster speeds than the "Up to 8MB" I am getting at the moment - nearer to 3.5mb. Also, will this enable the ADSL2+ on my router.
Very confused about the whole thing....
