By Longhotbath "as an aside... the motability poster behind the volkswagon dealer had a picture of an estate car with a mother and 2 children with no visible disability. I commented to OH that it might have been better if they showed a picture of someone with a disability with the car. The salesman said that the people in the picture are in the photo because they are glamorous!!! Cant people with disability be glamorous - personally I think they can be. Arent the paraolympic team?!!!
Perhaps Ill just find a different dealer!"

conversely can't someone "glamorous" be disabled? Perhaps those pictured in the poster ARE disabled! How about those with disabilities that aren't apparent? Does everything related to disability have to have a wheelchair or walking aids in it? I think we get enough prejudice, discrimination and narrow minded nonsense from the general public without other disabled people taking that kind of stance as well.

I agree. I find it really annoying when I park my car and some old man comes up to me in the car park to ask to see my badge, most of the time I am polite but sometimes I get annoyed and tell them to do one in another way. Its the same with that, old people think young people cannot be disabled. But we have the rest of our life to put up with the pain etc. Just last week some old person blocked my car into the car park because he didnt think I was disabled enough, so I had to call the police to get him moved!

Have you tried the Honda Jazz, that has an unsporty seat (or getting a grant to have a swivel front seat installed)?
thanks for the suggestion on the Honda i had not had a look at them yet,
i have got untill 2010 before i need to get another car so i have plenty of time to look around,
i got a letter today from DLA saying that my money would be going up and the mobility component goes up aswell,
and this has got me wondering why Motability advance payments have shot up when we are paying them more money, in my case i have got an extension on my lease for two years extra so they are getting extra for a car that will be five years old when i hand it back.
  • Hi strong, hope you dont mind me asking, but where was the dealership you used ?
when i suggested even floormats as an extra , they looked at me and spoke to me as if i was an alien or something they had just trodden in !
dealer i used was in Scotland . thanks for any info.

I tried negotiating on my Golf but VW weren't interested. The Motability scheme 'cut their margins to the bone already'....

Don't forget though that there's also a Motability £25 cashback available. See the referrer's thread here.

what we need to remember is tht the car we take goes towards the overall selling of the showroom,,for which they r paid big bonus, depending on hoiw many show room sold
do not let them fob u off with no margins etc,, they get good bonus from dealership

The salesman at Honda kept on pressing me to give him an 'Excellent' score when Honda's Customer Satisfaction team call me, as he's given gift vouchers at the end of the year related to how well he's done.

They haven't rung me yet, so I'm still trying to work out - should I say excellent, or be honest, groan..!
  • I ended phoning the main Nissan Motability office, and asking a few questions for eg, the minimum amount of fuel given to customers. she said as we all knew already it varies hugely and is down to luck !
She did however clarify one important thing , and that was (and many motability customers have experienced this at various dealerships and not just NIssan ) that contrary to the dealers saying "we make no money from motability blah blah " they do in fact make MORE money per sale of a Motability vehicle than they do from a conventional sale to the public.
So the next time anyone is told from a dealer , the above statement , you can actually give them a wry smile or just say "well i was lead to believe otherwise ". At the end of the day as stated on this forum and in other threads the best time to negotiate any "extras" eg fuel, flaps ,mats etc etc , would be the last 2 days of a calender month.
i have phoned several different dealerships (Nissan ) and expressed an interest in a Nissan Qashqai, and given them my details , tel number etc. I am now going to sit and and wait till end of this month and hopefully the phone ringing, with a salesman keen or desperate .lol..to meet his monthly targets.

Hi let me know how you get on with the qashqai deal. I have been after the new ntec model for the last month. Found the best price on buyanewcaronline.co.uk....but struggling to get any nissan dealership to come close. website quoted £18633 for ntec 2.0 cvt 2wd. List price is around 20,800 (with metallic pain). Best dealership price 19,600. Dont know what I have to do to get them to budge..or maybe i should just go with the webiste..anyone heard of buyanewcaronline.co.uk..interested to know if i am in safe hands buying from here or should I pay an extra £1000 to goto a nissan dealership?will the dealerships really improve on their deals in the last 2 days of the calendar month?

Hi there , i assume you are not entitled to Motability ? I would suggest go to Nissan.co.uk then search for your local dealers , give them all a phone (within a 50 mile radius ) and see what prices they can offer against the online retailer . Personally a dealer would be my choice , if you need any repairs done under warranty etc , but then again even if you bought car online i guess you could still take it to any Nissan dealer under warranty . My phone has not rung as yet.lol so perhaps they are all making their targets .
