Can you do it? Have you done it? If so did you get reduced advance payments, or an extra to the car?

Yeah, we've had extra's like car mats, fuel voucher, and a reduced advance payment in the past - it depends on the market and how keen they are to do a lease deal.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
  • Hi Kitster,
i did order my Nissan Qashqai today, i only got one dealer phoning me but they did not offer any extras. However the dealer that i did go to was approx 60 miles from where i live and because i had passed 2 nissan dealerships to get to them , they gave me free mats and a 1/2 tank of fuel on delivery of vehicle . I also got a price guarantee that i would pay LESS than the £1499 AP if the prices go down on 1st July. Incidentally the dealership was mobbed with folk looking and buying cars , a lot down to the scrappage scheme . Bottom line is dont always use the dealership closest to you because they are liable to give less towards extras.

soooo glad i found this thread, i purchased my first motability car in october, and it was a nightmare, the sales man told me that the car was in the forecourt and that he just needed me to send off the forms then he told me that id have to wait a week as that one was sold, after the week when i rang AGAIN he told to just chill out and id get it when it gets there, i rang and complained to his boss and the car cam 8 days after that- no fuel in it, just enough to get me to the garage, i suppose its because i complained, ive had so many problems with the car that i rant motability and tey were so nice and have said that i can apply from scratch again, am currenlty driving a seat ibiza and am looking to get the leon, some off the models are on offer but i would love a few extras like blurtooth pack and colour choice for free, should i go with the same dealer or go further a feild, am in northern ireland and the seat website only list 5 dealerships in the provence.... JUST CANT DECIDE WHAT TO DO? PLUS i notice that other people have gotten a vauxhall vectra with no advanced payment, is that offer still on????

I've applied for DLA but haven't yet heard, although I'm pretty certain I should get higher rate as I cant walk at all.

I've found a gorgeous peugeot, second hand, in my local dealer and I really, really want it. It's beautiful. We are taking it for a test drive tomorrow...however, I'm worried about the finance bit. I'm on ESA and will get DLA (Had CAB help me with the forms and she said she'd be surprised if I didn't qualify)...

So, any advice? We are both students come September. I really, really need a car to stop me being bedbound, and I've fallen in love with this one. Any advice is appreciated!

    Hi,

Firstly and I really hate to say this, but don't count your chickens before they are hatched. One reads of so many people getting knocked back for DLA nowadays and then having to appeal (thats even with professional help completing the forms etc - I know, been there, got the tee shirt etc) and until you have the letter awarding benefit in your hand, I would just be a bit cautious about signing up for anything.

Also, as a disabled driver myself, a 'normal' test drive of a car cannot really suffice. Try and get at least a 24 hour test drive, so that you can really work out if that is the right car for you with your disabilities. Remember it has to cater for both good days and bad days. What you might put up with with when you are 'not too bad' may turn out to be impossible when conditions play up.

Also you didn't say,, but are you looking to buy the car using Motability HP? If so, there are some conditions such as you must buy it from a Motability dealer and there are age and mileage restrictions on what you can purchase.

If you are looking into Motability leasing (of a new car) take time to go round a few dealers to check out as many cars as you can. Again taking your disability into consideration with such things as, if needed can a wheelchair fit into the boot. If you are looking to get a powered chair- will that fit in. Would you use a hoist or ramps etc. There are many things to take into account.

Also remember a non motability salesman (and even motability trained salesmen in some cases) will try and sell you any car and not really take your disabilities into account - all they are loking to do is shift that car. This might sound hard, but it is true that it is the pounds signs they can see, not what is right for you disability wise.

If this is your first car, try having an assessment at a Mobility centre. They will give you impartial advice on what will and will not help you to narrow down your choice of vehicle to those suitable for your needs.

Remember you will have the car for quite a while (no matter which way you buy it) and a mistake can be costly if you find it is not suitable for you in only a few weeks time.

My Mum ordered her third Citroen C3 in January. Because of delays at Citroen its taken till now for her car to arrive. We did speak to Citroen H.O. and managed to negotiate free parking sensors on Mums car because of the delay.

We have had a nightmare with the dealer Evans Halshaw in Sheffield. Their communication has been appalling form the start. They have changed responsibility for dealing with Mums order through 3 different salesmen who have all seemed more interested in selling new cars than dealing with Motability. Weve had months of failed call backs and at one time we asked where the car was as it was due to have left the factory and the saleman said they had no idea and we just had to be patient and wait for it to turn up.

Final straw came when they rang and said they could deliver the car to Mum this week. We said could they deliver it on a certain day as she would definately be in then and yhe saleman said 'no we cant deliver it, by deliver they mean hand it over at the dealership'. When we said this was a bit confusing since delivery normally means delivery they said we were 'nit picking'.

Is it worth writing formally and complaining to Citroen Head Office about the poor treatment you've received, and to Motability too? Sounds like the garage are giving the scheme a bad name, and should lose the right to sell for Motability?
