  • Thanks everyone, this is all really useful info as I am considering getting my first motability car as I find my clutch such hard work. But the only one I can see that I can get my mobility scooters into the back of is the Renault Kangoo (deposit £695 was £650 at Xmas!!!). I've asked for a Toyota Rav 4 brochure (after reading this web site) but it doesn't look big enough in the back for my Tramper (https://www.tramper.co.uk). Any other suggestions?

this is'nt exactly a question about getting a car, but problems i've come across with my car since i got it, which we're not apparent when i test drove the same model (but a lower spec which i think may be part of the prob). with my current car in certain light conditions, i cant see out of the windscreen because of reflections off the dashboard, also the wingmirrors reflect the "chrome" decorative ring around the air vents on each side of the dash. so when glancing in the wing mirror you have to refocus thru the reflection - i've had a couple of near misses due to this with the car in front braking, when i'm trying to look in the wingmirror.
the local salesman at the dealership said he's had the same complaints from other pople who have purchased the same model (not just DLa customers).
i think this is dangerous. i have tried putting felt on the dash but beentold i cant adhere it in any way not even blue tack, as this sticks in the dash, also tried that spongy meshy stuff to put on kitchen shelves to stop the reflection that didnt work the felt did quite well but kept slipping.

i'd like to terminate the contract as I worry when i drive (and I do drive long distances on motorways where wingmirrors are essential) but how do i stand ?

We went to see the Honda dealer today to see the CRV, manual is around £1400 adv payment but the automatic is £4000!
We test drove the Grand C4 Picasso toady, very nice but the dealer wouldnt budge on the £1195 Adv fee.
    Will keep looking

I ordered mine last week and managed to get a whopping £50 off the advance payment! Also, he said it would have to be ordered from the factory and won't be here until at least the end of April! My current lease expires first week April so he's arranged for me to keep it until the new car arrives. Anyone else had such a long wait for the C4 Grand Picasso?

    thanks

Have you though about black or dark blue dycem. that may stay on position.
  • This will be our first motability car - 7 seater and did 4 test drives on tuesday. We like the toyota verso, but cant order it as they are tweeking the spec next month!!!
The Volkswagon Touran was great, but wouldnt take our scenic in part exchange, and we didnt get to see the actual mobility dealer. He was a bit off as to colours we could have - if we wanted black that was fine - 2k advance payment, blue was 2k advance payment, but we would have to order and upgrade pack which would cost another 1.8k extra!!!
I wasnt expecting to pay more per colour!

Do Toyota take existing private cars in part exchange of the down payment, and do Volkswagon really not. Do I look at other dealers??

as an aside... the motability poster behind the volkswagon dealer had a picture of an estate car with a mother and 2 children with no visible disability. I commented to OH that it might have been better if they showed a picture of someone with a disability with the car. The salesman said that the people in the picture are in the photo because they are glamorous!!! Cant people with disability be glamorous - personally I think they can be. Arent the paraolympic team?!!!
Perhaps Ill just find a different dealer!
  • I had my first motability car in September 2007 and it worked out to be thousands of punds cheaper to have one through motability. Its a great shceme, the only three things you pay for extra are fuel, replacement light bulbs and wiper blades. I tried haggling on the motability price and go nowhere. Tried asking for some extras to be thrown in but again got nowhere, this was with Renault for a Renault Scenic (automatic). The car arrived on the agreed date and all was going well. 10 months later I ended up being a fulltime wheelchair user and the Scenic was no longer any good to me. Their was no way of the car being able to transport my electric wheelchair. One call to motability and explained my change of cimcumstances and they were great. Said they'd cancel the agreement without charge. Went through larger vehicles that could carry my electric wheelchair and prices. Then explained about adaptions such as hoists and ramps etc. Ideally I needed a drive from wheelchair vehicle but apparently I didn't qualify for any assistance due to total household income. Had to just make do with what was second best and affordable by myself.

Changed to a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso and had a hoist and some other adaptions fitted too. Cost me £3000 in total. The vehicle alone is worth best part of £20,000. Plus free servicing, tyres, breakdown, insurance etc. Without motability I'd have had to give up driving and be pretty much housebound so they were without doubt the best option for me.

I picked up a Mercedes A class last friday. I meant to order it before 1st of Dec but due to ill child couldn`t get out. I ended up paying £799 advance when it was £299 up to 1st of Dec. The last car was A class too and that came with full tank of petrol, bottle of champagne and a mercedes umbrella. This time got half tank of petrol, mats and I wasn`t charged for the extras which came up to just under £200. Also got a letter with a cheque from motability for the good condition bonus. So all in all quite happy!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
We (yesterday) just picked up our new one. Ford New Galaxy - much better than the old one. Dealer droppedthe payment by £800 almost without asking... Came with mats, but barely any fuel.. and 186 miles on the clock and radio tuned to Chiltern ... suspect they were shifting a demonstrator..
  • Oh how i wish i had spotted this thread 24hrs ago.
