I usually just throw all mine out, but have just recently found out about fraud..eeek!
So i'm starting to keep them, but my mum said to me to get a bank book from the bank to keep them in, now i'm not sure what this is?
Do i just go into a branch and ask for one?

Some banks will - or, certainly, used to, don't know if they do any more - give away folders that you can keep statements in. Otherwise, just use any A4 ringbinder ... unless it's a Natwest account, as they use silly little statements that are totally impractical for anything.
Definitely don't throw them out! When you do dispose of them, make sure they are shredded. It's potentially very dangerous to just put them in the bin.
I get most of mine online only, as that's easier for me. I do have one that I get by post, but I only get it sent quarterly, as I check the account regularly online, and am only getting the statement sent through for when I need it as proof of address for something else! (I don't have a driving licence.)0 -
And remember to keep 7 years back on all financial info.
I have a shoe box per year and in Jan go thro the one that has become 8 years old and reuse it for new year.:D
Seriously!
And even after 7 years, still SHRED, SHRED and SHRED !!!:rotfl: :rotfl:0 -

Better to sort through them in April at the start of the new tax year!0 -
I've gone for paperless banking. With any notices I do get I keep them in a concertina file with my other paperwork, if they are irrelevant I shred them.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

I've got a normal A4 ring-binder and have got all my statements from my A&L account in a plastic folder... along with separate sections for my credit card statements, store card and catalogue statements.

Saves you spending £2 on your own folder0 -
I keep mine in a secure pdf and store them with my bank using their secure web site.
I also keep a copy in an SQL database for future queries.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -
