To carry out the catering you would need to a obtain a basic food hygiene certificate( this is a legal requirement for any food handler), also get register your premisies with the local EHO (enviromental Health Officer) and then the usual insurance etc for any business. To get your own kitchen certified they will want to see that there are no pets etc, windows should have fly screens as should external doors. Can be a lot of work to do it all officially! Best to carry on with just friends until you are sure you want to make go of it!
    Best of Luck though!

This might seem like a really daft question but I'm currently in the process of starting up my own business and I don't have a clue about insurance/indemnity related things. My business will provide a research and information service to the construction industry/developers and further down the line, I'd like to offer a similar service to private individuals/general public. While I won't be making recommendations regarding land/property on a formal basis, it's very possible that the findings of my research will form part of the decision making process when it comes to things like buying/selling land, buying/selling property and making planning applications.

Will this potentially leave me vulnerable to legal action? Will I need some sort of indemnity cover? How are these things determined anyway? I would do the necessary checks/legal research but I don't even know where to start with this....Any advice much appreciated. :)

    Hi all

If this is the wrong forum - please feel free to move it..

I wish to register a new limited company where my wife will be a Director and i'll be the Secretary. (I shall be selling clothes on the web - HOPEFULLY)

Searching on google there's loads of companies out there that would do it for you.

Can anyone recomend a company i can use or should i do it myself?

    Basically i wish to

    1. Register as a Limited company

    2. All Necessary documents completed, sent to the relevant agencies including the HMRC, and copies sent to me

    3. Voluntary VAT registration (as my taxable income MAY reach the 60k threshold)

    4. Domain name and email

    5. A Business Bank Account with 18 months or so free banking

    6. 0870/0845 telephone number (optional)

    Many thanks in advance folks

Why pay a company to do it for you when you can easily do this stuff yourself? Go to Companies HOuse web site and register, all instructions and forms are there for you, easypeasy!. Most banks offer free business banking for a set period, Abbey are currently offering 2 years free business banking but check the competition. At the end of the day they are all more or less the same service. I would advise against the 0870/0845 number as these are common numbers barred using the referred caller service - i myself bar them to avoid nuisance cold call selling calls.
Domain name is easy to register yourself - and if you having your website developed by someone else, they will usually include that in the cost anyway (you get email as well).
Voluntary VAT registration is also easy - just go to the HMRC website for all the necessary forms - they have a great section for start ups and tell you what you need to do. Good luck with your new business :-)
  • i thought about starting an ironing buisness for a while then i went and bought the supplies i needed to do it at home, im currently working on my flyers.
i have a website ready to go

is there any way i could get a grant to help me get a property to start my business in instead of doing it in my home.
  • Hi how does a small business who does not have loads of money like the big companies to spend on advertising, drive people to their website
  • Hi there

I'm looking to start up a sole trader business and have prepared a business plan including forecasts. I have virtually no capital "lying around" to support me and am looking for start up help. HSBC today told me that they and the majority of banks will support start up costs (which will be around £3000) but will not support me on living costs while the business gets going. This means I'd struggle to pay my mortgage, bills etc in the early stages which obviously defeats the object of the exercise.

Are there any organsiations who would lend me around 4-6 months worth of living costs (even over a short term) until the business hopefully picks up customers etc. Are there any grants or similar available that I could look into?

Any advice or recommendations gratefully received.

    Thanks

    Chris

    For limited company formation/registration try http://www.uk-plc.net/companyformation/ - £34.99.

Or if you fancy the DIY method it'll cost £20 directly from Companies House. With this you'd have to write or acquire your own Memorandum and Articles of Association, however they tend to be very general (meaning your company can trade as almost anything) and there should be documents you can download from the web.

For cheap domain registration try http://www.123-reg.co.uk/.

Anyone who knows a good link or a copy of memorandum and Articles of Association?

Today Found this if anyone can tell about its authenticity. What happens when you submit this document?
