Where did all the Money go?
It never really all existed;) And that which did stayed right where it always has: in the pocket of the 1% of the population who have the power to wipe out the hard work of the rest of us;)"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

This is my first ever post.
I have learned that looking on this site, there are a lot of people with a great sense of humour even through difficult times. I love the theme of appreciation and also Ladbrokes for Middle Classes. It did make me chuckle.
Perhaps you can help. I was injured in a car accident exactly a year ago on 4th February when an uninsured, unlicensed driver hit my friend's car from behind. We were carted off to hospital but she was allowed to get a taxi from Winchester to London which she left without paying to disappear never to be seen since. My head injury means I have not been able to work or deal with paperwork properly and am just getting to grips with some things. About 19 years ago I took out an income protection plan when I was a supply teacher. I have been lucky enough never have claimed against it. I rang just before Christmas to be told that I had been registered as a housewife only and that would have to be virtually bedridden to be able to claim. They also said that I might be able to claim for being missold. I did tell them that I had been advised to get away to convalesce and would not be around until Christmas time. I do not cope with stress well and was freaked out by the increasingly terse messages left by some medical agency who wanted to come round and examine me. It has really upset me as they have written threateningly about having to do things by a certain date or else, or else what? I am not likely to get anything so why should I get grilled by some aggressive individual in my home? Then the seller's have sent letters saying that I must fill in forms about my complaint. I have not asked to make a complaint yet as I am still pretty fragile emotionally and stress brings on my physical symptoms pretty swiftly.
I feel that I am being bullied but I do need to sort finances out because I have not been back to work and my savings are running out. I know I should do something but have no idea where to start to ask for hel because I am not strong enough to yet to do it alone. The whole situation is really frustrating because I used to be the person that helped others get things sorted and yet I cannot seen to work out how to help myself.
Any advice, would be so, so welcome. Hope you are warm and snug away from the snow!0 -

Hi Wendy54...sorry to hear about the accident.
Sounds like they are tring to wheedle their way out of paying out. Typical....all the fat cats that fed off this stuff aren't coping now they have to actually pay out on the carp that they sold to people.
Examining you at home? Do you have a friend that could be there when they come? Might help.
I don't have that much practical experience of missold PPI and the like BUT i did try to reclaim some from OH's MBNA card a couple of years ago....and I gave up. He went deaf and had a serious op and they wouldn't pay out when we claimed.
The loans board has a sticky about PPI misselling. It is quite headache and you would have to decide if you can cope with all the obtuseness that some call centre employee will throw at you.
Welcome to the board
....BTW there are lots of topics going on at the mo plus a witty soundbite competition. 0 -
Hi fc123. Thank you so much for replying and for your kind welcome to the board. Sorry to hear about your OH, hope he is faring better these days.
What confuses me is that I would not have taken out an income protection plan if I had not got some kind of income to protect if I was at home as a housewife.
I have paid nearly £40 a month for all those years for absolutely nothing.
What is PPI? Is it the same as income protection? What does the FSA do? Someone suggested I call them for help.
I've just noticed you are in Brighton, both OH and I studied there and have 2 sons studying there right now. It is so full of life, they love it there and we are jealous. Hope the wind is not too icy at the moment for you. Can't say I envy that right now. We have a bit of light snow but nothing drastic yet.
Which topics would you say are fun to look at?0 -

Hi...PPI Stands for payment, protection insurance. It is usually a bit of a ripp off as there are so many exclusions within the policy that make is difficult to claim...except Mr Salesman didn't tell anyone that when they signed on the dotted line.
Boards that are fun...mmmmm.....if you go back to 'Forums', you can see them all lined up ready to go on...and you can see the number of users viewing. This may give you an idea of popularity.
The different boards are like different newspapers. Some are more popular culture in style, some older / trad and, some like this one are........well a bit inbetween.
Some posts are by smarter, more academic types, who take time to explain the effects of things like inflation in simple terms for people like myself (tho' I confess, I am becoming quite a knowledgable type nowadays *tongue in cheek*).
Then, there have been a few trolls recently.....just ignore them.
Some of us just use the board for a bit of brain chewiness at the end of the day.....a small part my day job involves being very up on the contents of Heat mag for example...so I hang out here for a bit of brain exercise.
Bit like the economist who reads Heat in his/her leisure time.
Then there is a bit of life experience/ busting Daily Mail stereotypes....to explain the 'Reality'.
Then there area few 'experts' who give share tips, saving tips and currency forecasts. They give themselves names that make them sound like a character in The Jungle Book.
Then there are Morecambe and Wise (and one of them is 70....he is not on here that much as he is busy learning txt spk so he can understand yoof posters). They make jokes and think up funny stuff to dispel some of the gloom
There are Angry posters on this board, whose lives have or are being strongly affected (in an adverse way by the current economic situation).
There are also a few with some handy tips on Financial Armageddon...like how to stop mice eating your stores if you keep them in the loft.
And then there is me.....my own recession story will be unravelling over the next 2 months.:D
It's fine here...just don't take anything personally.0 -
Will go and play!
Thanks!0 -

To answer specifically the above. OH had a dangerous op...that worked...except he know has a bionic ear that has accentuated high pitch hearing (by about 20%) so, all women (higher pitch voices) sound like they are shouting. He tells me not to shout all the time.....and suffers if surrounded by a lot of women chit chatting.
Shame, as he can hear unbelievably well....if we stand in the shop, 40' from the door, he can hear the service conversation inside the shop opposite, 20' inside their door.#
He should really become spy but the hearing only works on higher pitch so he could only spy on female enemies.0 -
Glad he got through the op okay and that there have been some real benefits.
But you can never mutter an abuse without him hearing - damn!
Wouldn't it be fun to set something up where he can use his bionic hearing to catch somebody out? Don't they employ people in Japan to check to see if lovers are being faithful, he could listen in on all their conversations and report back. They pay a fortune for it.
My eldest son tells me not to shout when I telephone him and I get very cross because his Dad does shout. Never thought it might be something to do with the way he hears pitch.
Just read some of the real downer posts. Gonna avoid those or I will be down there with them. Where do you find the sound bite post? I have looked but am obviously not looking in the right place.
Cheers, Wendy0
