I'm still chuckling at "they've been up and down more than Abi Titmus's knickers!" :rotfl:

We were going to emigrate, I have issues with my upbringing and have no parents to stay for, but OH got an excellent promotion so our standard of living changed dramatically. We then moved here as it was the way the towns and cities were going that concerned me with my kids. Living here is a bit like living in a bubble, we watch the news but it's like it's happening a million miles away. Can I ask what degree you are doing?

I am doing an English degree P/T with the Open University. Dh is doing a Physics degree, at Liverpool University.

It must be lovely to get away from the towns/cities, Well done:)

I want to be an English Teacher (secondary school)
Dh is doing a Masters degree (so it's 4yrs) and hopes to go onto to do a phd...or some kind of research job.

We are determined to succeed in our aims, if it takes us till we are drawing pensions:D (which it probably will)

Tara - my FIL is currently working on a contract at halifax (although he does stuff I don't understand relating to IT) but they have told him there is no way they can renew him in march when contract runs out - This scares me coz he is a big earner and subs us alot for stuff and BIL is going to uni in sept - I think I'm worrying about them more than they are but all i can think is who on earth will give him a job!? all his experience is in banking

Surely IT experience can be taken from one industry to the next. The IT guys we used to have in did conracts for lots of different companies. It's not something I know a lot about but even with the current situation I would assume that the IT systems still have to have the same maintainance whether they are busy or not. I would suggest agencies which is who we used last time. They are as desperate for fees as much as anyone and my OH had 3 fighting to get him a job. Then 2 fell out insisting they had found the final placement, he eventually took one he found himself.:rotfl:
