Blimey, that's a novel idea.
Do they come out easily?0 -

I'm attempting my first ever plate pie
Mash with carrots and onions is the filling, all baked in an enamel pie tin that I got from a M&S dessert ages ago. Goodness knows how it will turn outHave also made mini pasties for lunch boxes with the leftover pastry.

Well, it's all out of the oven now. I posted pics on my blog. Pasties tasted good, will add a little more seasoning next time, but apart from that, yummy!!

Hope I'm not trying to teach my granny how to suck eggs ...but if you can't get any enamelware, don't forget to save those nice aluminium pie plates that shop bought pies come in. Wash with care and you can recycle them to re-use for your own homemade pies.
I have noticed that a few people have commented that their pastry is a bit tough - please remember to keep it as cold as possible when mixing and rolling - add iced water at the breadcrumbs stage, stir and mix to a dough with a knife blade (not fingertips). Use knife to cut chunks for rolling out - just cut as much as you need rather than trying to roll the whole piece. Don't worry if you see little pieces of fat when you roll it out - this is normal and you shouldn't try to knead these out - the pastry will even itself out as it cooks.:o I think the secret is to keep it cold and not overmix it0 -
