We had minced beef, gravy, peas and sweetcorn plate pie for tea after i went to the army surplus store and got some plates for 99p each.
Very nice !!!
Am going to try the sausagemeat and stuffing one as that sounds gorgeous !!
I managed to drop into conversation with about 5 people that i ad made my own pies - also dropped in i had made homemade hob nobs - everyone thinks i am domestic goddess now - whereas in reality i have a whole forum holding my hand through every attempt and providing the recipes !!It's not paranoia if they really are after you.0 -
I have a metal plate my son brought home from school. He dropped the pyrex dish I had sent him to school with for cookery, and had to use the metal plate instead, so I shall be using this for a pie later, me thinks. (School's not getting it back, now.)keep smiling,

I make individual size pies in yorkshire pudding tins-the ones that are about four inches across not the bun size trays.
Since there are only two of us I usually make four pies and freeze them uncooked then remove them from the tray when frozen.0 -
Have been making plate pies for many years now, I have an old dinner plate (must be 40yrs old at least) its been used at least twice a month for pies during those 40yrs savoury and sweet and is still going strong. Don`t think a modern one will be as strong though0

I might try one tomorrow. My mum used to make them and I loved them. I have made them in the past but not for about 10 years  I have not acually made pastry for about 15 years, cheated last few times and used frozen pastry.
So what will it be tomorrow, try to make pastry or buy frozen ?TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0 -

I did one last week and always used to get the ready made stuff (pre-rolled or blocks) but I was so surprised at how easy it was to make the pastry and nice it tasted I'll not be going back to shop bought stuff (unless I need puff)
