"plate Pies"

Years ago i rememeber my nanna used to make cheese and onion, and corned beef, potato and onion plate pies,

Well i got heaps of reduced cheese at asda the other, that need using up, so light bulb moment Cheese and onion pie.....

So my question to you folks is i have a cassorle dish (with lid), can i use the lid instead of a dinner plate.....

I am worried that the dinner plate will crack in the oven

Many thanks

Yep! Should work fine, I use the lids off my pyrex dishes when I run out of pie plates.

  • I use dinner plates all the time for my pies and never had a broken one. If you are going to make them often you could buy plates so cheeply at charity shop. My family love both of these fillings, also mince and potato pie.

Its quite simply a pie made on a plate... is flatter than a normal pie and generally has less filling I guess...

  • Cheese and Onion Pie filling
Grated Cheese, 1 beaten egg, 1 diced onion salt and pepper mix together add pastry and - delicious! - you can add diced potato if you want to
Corned Beef and potato pie filling
Tin corned Beef diced, 1 onion diced, diced potato salt and pepper and you can egg to bind if you want or not
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

that brings back memories of growing up. My mum made lots of plate pies, it was always mince or cheese and potato.
