This is a real help, my IBS is a bit here and there at the moment with the amount of fibre I'm feeding my belly (I just can't have a lot). I was diagnosed 6 years ago, and it's the only thing I've been able to pinpoint - that and spicy foods.

I haven't had a drop of red wine for ages, but have a lot of pasta :o(

I have chronic IBS and have been on medication for 10 years now. Nothing has helped no mater what I exclude from my diet but I've found that since becoming vegan my IBS has all but disappeared. If only I'd known sooner. Does make me wonder what it was that was setting it off though can only presume it was something dairy related (although I never drank milk and have excluded dairy before I never bothered excluding whey etc before).

Dh and dd are making me feel really bad, as I already said its my birthday on saturday and he wants to take me out for a meal, there is nowhere local that does vegan food and steak and chips which is all he ever eats when we go out  so Ive told him we cant go out to eat made other suggestions like would he like to cook me a nice meal at home ? he said no way, I dont know how to cook that crap you eat ! so then dd gets in on the act and said Mum he wants to take you out for a meal, can you just go back to eating veggie food for one night  their making me feel really guilty , Im quite upset about the whole thing, we never usually go out to eat anyway and didnt do anything for his birthday so I dont know what the big deal is anyway.
Sorry to winge, but no one else would understand how I feel except another vegan.

That's terrible. I'd be fuming. Mr S is a steak & chips man but he is being really supportive about my veganism, he cooks his own meals & I cook mine. Could you do something else like a trip to the cinema or something instead of a meal?

Ah looks like they may not do it then :( . I will try and find out for sure though as even my omni partner liked it (opps did I say liked? I was supposed to say LOVED it :rotfl: . I think I got around 6 teaspoons out of the whole tub the first time before the rest of it was gone  ).

The blueberry does sound lovely though but he won't go for that if it's for sharing. We like to buy foods that we can both eat at times so we can really share that time in all ways not just the chosen activity eg watching a movie etc :o .
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D

Thanks for the support and the good ideas, there is a couple of Weatherspoons nearby and the cinema sounds good too, I need to talk to him and dd about respecting my choice, 18 year old are rather vocal though  I'm sure we will find something good to do now :D

    That's outrageous!

He should respect your choices - can't he make a special effort as it's your birthday? (Mind you, you are partners so it shouldn't need to be a 'special' effort....)

Most restaurants will be happy to serve you.
We usually eat Indian/Italian/Chinese - Most of our local Indians (I'm using a generic term here - most round here are Bangladeshi or Pakistani) also do Steak and chips (In fact it always amazes me the amount of people that do order it in an Indian restaurant - why the hell they don't just go to a meat market like those abhorrent chain places is beyond me?!?)

The chef at one Indian we go to usually likes to surprise us with an extra dish (gratis) he's created - just to see what we think of it!

Hope you get something sorted out and have a great birthday!

    That really is terrible Sue.

It's YOUR birthday!!! They're the people who should be going out their way to make you feel special.

Fine, if it was your hubby's birthday and he wanted a meal then fair enough go along and have a plate of salad and a jacket potato. (Minus the butter). Wouldn't be nice but I'm sure you'd be happy enough to make the effort for them.(without compromising your beliefs)

For one day of the year, they really should do the same for you.

Yeah your right, he's out at a gig tonight but I had ds2 his girlfriend and little g/d dd, her friend and baby round for dinner tonight, luckily I went to m&s , brought a couple of their Indian meals for 2 for them and a veg curry for me, we had a lovely evening and they even cleared up for me. The only problem though was the cake I tried to make, I got the recipe from an Animal aid booklet its a chocolate and orange cake, I made it last weekend and it turned out fine, it was really lovely so I thought Id make another one today but was in a bit of a rush so it didnt rise as well as the other one and when I tried to get it out of the tins it fell to pieces, I now have a bowl full of cake crumbs, too nice to chuck I keep picking at them :D but theres loads so any ideas what I can do with them ? I thought about pouring some vegan custard over some and making a sort of a trifle, but there would still be lots over.

Am never, ever going to complain about my 8 hour day and 40 minute drive each way. Can't remember the last time I was up at 6.30am, let alone leaving to go to work.

Greenbee, I hope the job is worth it xx

I'm trying to work that out at the moment
  • Cake crumbs can be made into truffles, but not sure how to do that the vegan way.

Or 'ice cream' as in brown bread ice cream?

In a neverending quest for a 'milk' that I can actually put in my mouth without gagging (I could never drink real milk but am trying to have cereal each morning for the calcium now) today I tried Vanilla flavoured Rice Dream rice milk. It was lovely

So I had my first bowl of cereal (Dorset muesli) in about 20 years today. It was good. I realised that I was in danger of falling into a toast for breakfast more bread for lunch rut so cereal seemed the easiest replacement. Plus now I'm not eating cheese I need the calcium (actually to be honest I never even checked if rice milk had calcium... probably should have looked!). Going to try the almond & hazlenut flavoured one next week.

Edit: just checked and it has hardly any calcium but my cereal has some so it's all good in the end :)
